aldomet and add

When I was 5 mos pregnant, I was diagnosed with chronic hypertension and put on bedrest..I started taking aldomet for my blood pressure....as the mos went by, aldomet increased..I was taking 2000 mgs before I had my son....
My son's oxygen level dropped 3 times before I finally had a c-section due to fetal distress..I've wondered if aldomet could cause my son to have ADD......my son is 13 now..when he was in 3rd grade, his teacher told me she thought he had symptoms of ADD..his pedicatian prescribed strattera...he took it for a yr...I took him off because of the weight loss and his personality changed....he has taken phosphatidylserine/dmae and omega-3 fish oil...to help him focus..he does get easily distracted...I have not taken him to a pyschiatrist for further testing...this year he is in 8th grade and struggling in school...I have read about L-tyrosine..and wonder if it is successful with focus...he is not hyper..very quiet but does have a short attention span..does not complete assignments on time...grades are failing...I don't like medication and would like to continue with something herbal if possible....please advise...

Well done fo rbeing willing to try the Natural remedy way for your Son, I see it was the teacher who suggested he was ADD and I guess concerned, you took him to the Doctor who then gave him the Meds, that is exactly what has been happening in huge proportions,  they seem to believe that any boy who wriggles in his seat and wilfully defies his teachers Rules Has AHDD ,you say his personality changed , it is known that the side effects include irritability ,insomnia, hostility and aggressive behavior. You may want to try a multiple -mineral supplement with anti oxidants ,B Complex and Vitamin C .5HTP does help people with Anxiety if taken in low dose  also has some side effects, headache and I am not certain of the dose for children, Sam _E is another similar Natuaral remedy again with similar side effects if you try then do it with low doses.

you could try L-Tyrosine but I don't think it metabolizes very well in the body. I took it for my ADD and noticed zero difference. I am finding cinnamon helps me concentrate for some weird reason. I started taking it when I read it was good for regulating insulin and preventing carbo cravings. I am not diabetic though.  Did your son do better in school on the medication? I would look at all sorts of things. Does he play video games? Has he been assessed for depression? ADD isn't the only thing that makes it hard to concentrate. Look into 5 htp also, that has had some success I think with ADD.. I used to take it and really liked it but now I'm enjoying the benefits of cinammon..
