Usually, stimulants will not make a child with adhd more hyper (unless the dose is too weak to have any effect). Sounds like the aspergers is the driving force. Dr. may be hoping his system adjusts, but I would definitely let the doc know what is going on at school. That is not normal.
We tried stimulants but seemed to make him so out of control he spent a night in the ER. The combination of the two meds is commonly used with kids with ADHD AND aspergers
Interesting, the fairly standard treatment for adhd is a stimulant med. your son is on an antipsychotic and a "calming" down med which explains the going to sleep. Kind of surprised about the meds being used but I don't know his symptoms. What kind of a doctor are you seeing? My concern is that the meds he is taking tend to mask the adhd rather then treat it. Have you gotten much info on adhd? There is a lot that can also be done besides just the meds. Hopefully you are also getting this ihfo.
Oh, and if you haven't done so - goggle the meds. I really don't understand the use of clondine since "Clonidine is increasingly used in conjunction with stimulants to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), for which it is administered in late afternoon or evening for sleep." Yet, a stimulant med is not being used?
so sorry he has ADHD and aspergers
