well we just have a difference in opinion and yeah i am 20 and i dont have kids i am just really oppinionated about it because although i dont have kids i am really observant and know a lot of people who are on them and noticed what it did to them and i only met one girl that was completley off the wall and needed it and i wouldnt want my child on them i think that would be best for them but you have a different opinion on what best. and that is just mine. and i know alot of people and i know soooo many people from everywhere with totally different lives and all of them have become dependent on it and have in fact gotten into drugs but thats also more of just the personality that may come with some people that have ADD so not saying it does totally connect but i read a lot about it and i know a lot about people and people on it. and i know you want your child to suceed but personaly i just see it as too young of an age and ADD meds have not been used that long to really know long term side affects of starting out that young.... but i do know that  they become used to it and will have to go to a higher dose later on. and all those kids i see that had ADD are just not that into math and science and stuff and spend all their time doodling in class and they just turned out to be really artistic and its the whole left brain right brain kinda thing cuz its all the same people type of people that are on ADD meds so i just see it as not that big of a problem but i mean i also dont know how bad the kid is but still i personaly see it as a way as controlling them... cuz if i dont want to do something i wont concentrate on it but i still eventually get it done and it still is like giving a kid meth and i just dont see it as healthy in the long run and so many doctors say not to start till kids are much older. and i did say i dont know the whole story but im just stating my opinion from what i see of it. and you also dont know the whole story unless you have taken them... but it can turn you into a total zombie. i mean i know atleast for me i was like that when i started and i couldnt do anything durning the day but i was finally able to think at night and i felt like it just killed my artistic ability and everything during the day when i was way too zoned in.

add/adhd is not simply being a kid, it interupts their ability to concentrate in school, why shouldn't these kids have every opportunity to succeed in school, to become productive members of society, and most kids start taking the meds around age 5 yrs, because it is needed not because one likes to put kids on meds...some kids really need it, some meds will give tics and some won't and putting kids on adhd meds if used correctly won't make them drug addicts it is quite the opposite actually a child who is on ritalin lets say when he is a teenager he may not succumb to peer pressure as his impulsivities are in check and he can make better choices, the hyperactivity associated with adhd is not productive if they can't sit still to learn anything, they need every opportunity to learn as others do , they just need more help i don't advocate the use of medications in children but when used correctly, there are real benefits...i have been dealing with adhd and meds with my oldest son for 19 yrs and he is now doing good thanks to the meds that helped him to succeed...you obviously don't have any kids because if you did you would want what is best for them, sometimes parents have to outway the benefit to the rist of use...and the benefits are numerous....yes there are side effects but there are also side effects with all medications you have to find the right one that works....you shouldn't tell people what to do you are not living their lives and do  not know the whole story!!

um.... honestly.... your kid is FIVE!!! sorry i just think its really really wrong for people to put their kids on ADD meds when they are that young i mean idk your kid so maybe he does seeeeeeeriosly need it but still i have been on that stuff for a long time and its sooo bad to get kids started on that especialy when they are that young cuz they are five!! of course they will have ADD thats called being a kid. and i have heard from so many people that you shouldnt be taking it before or during puberty. and you realize that taking that stuff is like taking meth so there will be tics.... trust me i started on that stuff and once i moved up my mind when crazy and once i accidently took twice as much i felt like my eyes were going to fly out of my head and really i dont think ADD meds are worth it....

dont kill his energy or give him meds before he is even old enough to know what he is getting into....

i know alot of people who started that young and it killed their sex drives or they became addicted to it and do have problems like that and i know that i go crazy if i dont have it and i have random heart palpitations and when i miss a day my ADD is waaaaaaaaaay worse than it would have been if i never started taking it..... ADD meds are a joke and a way to just control kids and honestly i hate them and i have seen alot of halarious off the wall kids start that stuff and it totaly just kills their personality and idk... i would say..... SERIOSLY STOP they are way tooo ******* young to be put on meds and doctors are way to fast to give everyone ADD meds.

and sorry if i sound like im being harsh but i been on meds for a while and i know a lot about that stuff and seen what it does to people and its not needed and compleeeeeeeeetly unnecessary for a ******* five year old to be on that stuff... especialy if he is twitching.....

biphenton is still in the methylphenidate family, my son had tics with ritalin and concerta to where they diagnosed him with aspergers and pdd nos -his tics were severe and had full body ones like spinning while walking, and hand waving while walking, head rolling as if he was totally disconected and in his own world... and staring off into space and not hearing you try to get him to snap out of it he used to stand in front of the tv even when it was off and just stare at it, didnt even hear me call his name till like the 5th time...they thought he might have been having seizures, i couldn't even let my then 9 yr old outside alone for fear he would get hit by a car or get hurt..my son had tics that started out small and hardly noticeable but over time they became much worse...and wasn't to bad till med increase on concerta, age 9 yrs wow he almost ended up in physciatrict hospital for kids....mri was completely clear no tumors, no seizures.. changed meds  and his diagnosis is now correct adhd and nld- non verbal learning disability or right hemisphere dysfunction - same thing...no more tics at all since he was changed to small dose of dexedrine 15mg am 5mg pm...only problem is now he is a bit moody...but he no longer just staring off into space...etc...it is a scary world out there when it comes to medicating our children, i have chosen to only medicate with small doses and he is even starting to regulate his own behaviour...somewhat....keep searching every child reacts differently to meds, hope you find one that works for your child...my son can not go with out the help of some meds as his issues are too severe and his adhd is the combined type and is severe off meds....almost 11 now and he is still doing well....no lasting effects either...good luck with your son....
