This isn't a question but more of an update. If you remember, I was pregnant and addicted to vicodin and VERY concerned about my son being born with withdrawal. My concerned lessened after I talked to my doctor about it, but some people (here) still had doubts.
In a nutshell, I was taking 7-10 pills a day throughout my pregnancy until I came clean to my OB/GYN about my use and she started prescribing 4 of the 10mg pills per day for me to take for the rest of my pregnancy. I was using 40mg a day until I gave birth.
My son was born at 9 lbs, no complications, a 9/10 APGAR score. He latched on the breast just fine, he was not colicky or fussy, and did not exhibit any withdrawal symptoms. A team of pediatricians came into my room 24 hours after he was born to determine if he was going through withdrawal and thankfully he wasn't. They were all very alert and attentive to my and him because of the possibility of withdrawal.
Now 4 weeks later, he is still breastfeeding like a dream, he is gaining weight perfectly and there have been no problems whatsoever. Thank god for this gift I have been given and the fact that my son didn't suffer for my use during pregnancy.
This is not a ticket to use during pregnancy- if anyone reading this is pregnant and using, you need to tell your doctor. I had a caseworker come into my room and question me in the hospital; apparently it's hospital policy for anyone using during pregnancy. Since my use was by prescription, they obviously couldnt do anything about it- but what if I hadn't told my OB about my use and they tested my son and found out about it? Things may have been different.
Thank you LORD for giving me this gift; and for the ability to share my experience with you all. Bye.
