Mayberry-- I know...a very "cut to the chase" type of guy! I heard that a long time ago and never forgot it. I love stunning sarcasm!!
yes indeedy! after all, you don't want to stop and smell the cinders while you're walking through hell. get outta there as fast as you can!
vicki,
if i could get that on a poster, i'd put that right above my bar! thats funny.
Churchill also said (after being accused of having too much to drink at a function:
"My dear lady, in the morning I will be sober but you will, unfortunately, still be ugly".
He was a witty one!!!
Thanks for posting that!
It's strange how a single sentence can sum up how you feel (HELL) let you know your not the only one, and if you keep walking long enough...( Well, at least I hope if I walk on long enough!!) I'll reach the end. Or at least find a place with central air.
Whoever said go to heaven for the climate and hell for the company sure as h*ll wasn't f*cking kidding about the climate part!!!!!
....or the company for that matter. Anyone else notice that people who've screwed up a few times are a hell of a lot nicer than those who haven't?
...the saints are kept far too busy pointing out all the character flaws that led us to such a sorry state - when they aren't banning things or drawing arbitrary lines to separate eachother: - right/left gay/straight Protestant/everybody else (lol) etc,. Can possibly expect them to take time for things like compassion.
Meanwhile, pretty much anybody is accepted here in hell, PERIOD.
Don't mean to offend by "saint" reference, OR religion!!! Religion is a GOOD THING when it's about love, giving, forgiveness, etc.! I'm referring ONLY TO those using religion to beat you over the head and demonize anyone different, or "sinners" in general.
This might help make sense of what I wrote - it just so happens I come from a looooooong line of saints.... and I know they really are saints because they remind me 2-3 times a day. They think there was a mix-up at the hospital when I was born.
The're about as right wing as they come & church oriented is an understatement - hasn't been a single divorce in FOUR GENERATIONS... ...and there's a LOT OF THEM. Couldn't even name all my cousins, but i bet they can ALL name ME, lol. (they need me even if they don't know it - what the hell else would they talk about?? Who's bringing the green-bean casserole for wed. night social??)
Oops, way, WAY off track!!! My APOLOGIES for getting off subject with the mini rant. And for my language. and if you are an extreme right wing Christian. Or any of the other possibly offensive things I said in my very first post.
Great post Churchill! Hope you don't mind me stealing it for my journal
Since im new, any other phrases, sayings, etc., that have helped you guys? So far, I have this one, the knot at the end of the rope thing, and of course, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.." (had to write that one 100x as punishment, so doesn't really evoke what it should anymore, lol ;)
Again, sorry for the tangent ;)
Btw, so many of your posts have helped me enormously, thank you all
Yep! There's a country song that helped me get through the early days of withdrawal...it borrows from Churchill, saying "if you're going through hell, keep on moving...don't slow down. if you're scared, don't show it. you might get out before the devil even knows you're there".
so true
