I never asked to be in this situation...

Nobody did! But I am here and we are all here. Life can throw curve balls sometimes and this addiction was one ball I missed. I dont accept that fact that I was going to use 'one day' in life anyway , if it wasn't last year. I chose it knowing it's addictive but also thinking that getting addicted is for other people , not me! I'll just stop when I feel the 'need' to take it as opposed to wanting to take it for fun. so wrong in thinking that and after using more and more I not only thought it but I believed it. Just shooting down anything that got in my way of using.  Fast forward (add clean time here..lol) and it's just the opposite. We get our motivation back....our logic...our willpower... Our strength ... it's all back and it keeps us from using again. Or it should be a major deterrent!   I might put my two cents in around here...sometimes its worth three cents and other times worth only a cent....but one thing I always roll with is my common sense.

Hey Mike, So true are your thoughts. I too thought I had escaped the addictive gene even though my entire family had suffered addiction of some kind, I however was much tougher and wiser (yeah right). Now that we know we have this affliction, we can only treat it and learn how to keep it from rearing it's ugly head. The better we get and farther out we are in our recovery can be a double edge sword. We're empowered from our clean time, but still so vulnerable. As you mentioned , we are no longer physically sick and our newly healed minds start to talk s--- again to get us to use....just one pill. Anyway, its a balance that I try not to teeter to much on , but still am ever aware of the power of addiction. No , we sure didn't chose this nonsense, but now that we know better, we do better. Love your thought provoking post. They give much food for thought. xx

Hi Mike, have you ever thought about writing a book, like an inspirational daily thought for recovery from addiction? Your posts are raw and real and give people something new to think about each day. It could be a journal type book with the daily thought at the top and then a place where the reader could journal. I enjoy reading your daily posts and following your journey and I believe it helps others too. I hope you have a great day! :)
