Intervention on AE

I have seen many episodes of invervention, but last night was one of the most disturbing I have seen.  I could not believe this girl was just walking around sucking on a can of computer duster.  What is even more amazing is that it is perfectly legal.  Are there any laws in place so that teenagers can't purchase those things?  I know that here you can't purchase liquid paper unless you are over 18.  That duster stuff is lethal.  Did you see her and how it affected her mind.  At the end of the episode it showed her clean and she looked great, but my question is will her brain ever totally recover from something like that?

I saw that episode on monday too..quite disturbing. I used to do the whipped cream can things too Nauty. I've worked at a coffee bar for almost 11 years. I used to do it quite often actually... can't be a good thing at all. For some reason I haven't done it in a really long time..thank god. I was pretty shocked by the episode though..I kept thinking 'how does she not realize how effin messed up she is?", but then again... do people think I'm weird when I'm on pills? probably.. just not to that extent. I'm glad I don't have any of the computer duster stuff, I probably wouldn't be able to look at it either without having strange thoughts..

dang, girl......I do appreciate your honesty.  I was actually thinking the same thing.  Not that I would do it, but it did peak my curiosity. And if can do that to an adult as myself....some may think otherwise...lol. but it still did.  I have a confession to make.  Once in a great while I will take a hit off the old whipped cream cans.....lol.  Not really funny but I do.  So imagine the invincible mentality the kids have as we did in grade & high school.  I know someone who died of huffing that stuff many years ago. I have not heard of that substance since.  Was very weird to hear of it again, and I swear...I never look at that can the same again.  I always have one on my shelf at all times.  I think I'm gonna put it in a drawer for a while.  It really bothers me to look at it.......weird.

And, being 18 to buy anything means nothing.  If kids want it.....they will get it.....sad, but true.

Nauty........

As a teacher, I had to turn a high school student in for smelling markers.  He would take the marker and color in the groove between his thumb and first finger and then just sit in class and smell it.  You know those old permanent markers, I think they are made by sandford.  They are a metal marker and it stinks so bad that you can hardly use it in the house or you will get a buzz. A fellow teacher had a female student would paint her fingernails with liquid paper and then sniff it in class.

I also know that at the walmart here, you have to be over 18 to purchase those markers, super glue, or liquid paper

it was very very disturbing. i watched it too...couldn't believe my eyes..but then it bordered on absurdity. i kept thinking she looked like a skit on sat night live. you know the ones that make fun of people. i also don't see her 'making it' after rehab. don't get me wrong, i wish her only healing and success, fix forward and all. However, her robot demeaner (almost stepfordish) and the fact that she still is in contact with the sugar daddy just smelled wrong. you're right naughty, this just somehow seemed wrong. i work at a school dist and we are always on the lookout for this...i've never, ever seen it..ever.

i'm glad i'm perfect... ;)

I saw the disclaimer too and I agree it was a cr@ppy way to discourage someone from trying it.I remember being a kid and thinking I was invincible 30% would have looked like zero % to me back then.Even when I was taking the pills someone would give me a pill and tell me it was just like taking a vicodin I'de swallow it first and ask questions later.I was looking for that high anyway I could get it.I'll be honest here when I was watching it last night I honestly thought to myself if I was still using and there was a can of it sitting on the computer desk I probably would have tried it just to see what it felt like and thats the honest truth.Like I said it just didn't sit right with me.I thought it was real irresponsible of them to air that episode.....Peace.............Kim

you know, the flipside is, it could have scared the cr** out of a bunch of kids, who may now never try it because of this episode.

I totally feel the same way...As much as i like the show, This one was so different....All i could think of when i went to sleep, was how many kids have computers, and how many either watched this show, or if someone did, they posted on the computer a new way to get high....Just digusting...I even went check in my cabinets to see if i had it...lol

I don't know if anyone noticed but they did put up a disclaimer that said 30% of deaths occur at the first use.......I thought that was a cr@PPY way of trying to make it ok>>>>or whatever>  i was not comfortable with the show>>i have heard of the substance and it was or is popular to huffers  i will say i will never look at that can the same>>>sorry bout my keyboard>>>>grrrrrr

Anyway, unlike other substances, there are people that obviously are addicts.  This one just seemed different, like I can see people trying it right now, unlike pills, alcohol, meth, whatever......ya know what i meah????   Irresponsible.  I think i am going to send them a email........now i am really ticked off.

Thought the exact same thing.Worried about how many people never thought about doing something like that and now they are.I normally really like the show but last nights episode just didn't sit right with me.At one point she said when she was at the store purchasing the duster that although the same employee is at the checkout everyday that there is nothing they can do about it because it's not illegal and shes over 18. I'm happy to see she got help and she did look so much better once she got clean.

I saw that last night and thought it was terrible.  I have never heard of this, and now I can see kids doing this, or adults.......after seeing it.  I thought it was irresponsible, but I guess it is reality.....I just didn't like it.......

Only time will tell for that poor individual. That huffing thing is dangerous....the "high" comes from oxygen deprivation to brain....like a stroke or another issue - the outcome varies with many factors influencing the result....that gal needs some prayers....
