My story.I came here to MH just over a year ago a heroin addict 13 years waisted on heroin. Missed myfamily growing up.Know were to go just a junkie heading for a coffin. I met some awesome ppl on this site they saved my life. And iwill never forget them for that. My first post was plz help. I spoke to a guy you all know well Gizzy .His doc was not the same as mine so he pm a woman i have the upmost respect for Lesa ( Letakos ) She had been through my addiction and came out the other side. So when i thought there was know hope now there was.I spoke to Letakos and she asked me if i would try coming of cold turkey this scared me as i had tried and failed countless times. But i kept thinking if a woman can do it so can i so me and my wife went cold turkey a 13 year heroin habit i had to win or iwas heading for a coffin. This stuff was killing us. My wifehas been clean since that day over 1 year i relapsed a few times but im now 6 months clean. So all you guys and gals starting ot weather it be aday a week a month keep fighting i thought it inpossible but when we want our freedom bad enough anything is possible you just got to want it bad enough.I had so much support it was unbeleivible.So never give up even if you relapse thats part of addiction. You can do it if we can beat a 13 year heroin addiction you can beat your addiction. Now im one of the happest men on this planet. Im on holiday for the first time in 15 years. So your life really does get better.I know the w/ds suck and the mental part also.But its so worth it to feel the way i do know. Sokeep fighting never give up imhappy and i never thought i would ever say that again. I talked with my councillor about the deppressionbut what worked for me was an anti deppressant my doctor prescribed for me. Prozac they worked wonders and still do. I hope that answers your question on the mental part it was the worst part of w/ds for me ,,,James

WOW!!! Your an inspiration and I cannot believe you and your wife were able to do it together and not kill each other!!! I chose the methadone route and I am almost tapered off. My biggest issue is the depression. How did you get through the mental. The physical ***** but the mental is a major hurdle. How did you do it???

So proud of you James! I know you were down in the dumps for awhile there and that caused the few relapses you mentioned above. BUT, you didn't give up. You got back on that horse time and again and look where it got you. You have proved the saying right of "don't ever give up". No matter how hopeless we feel at times, there is always hope even if it's just a sliver. No matter how bad things can get, we always have the power to turn it around. And you my friend, turned it around.
Just keep moving forward and continue to do what you are doing because it is working. Congrats on fighting for your life and coming out on top.
