TV Program about Pills, etc.

Just a heads up...ON Sunday, tomorrow (1/29/12), at 9 p.m. pacific time, the National Geographic channel is airing a program on pills - I think it's called Pill Nation, or something like that. Every Sunday they run a Drugs, Inc. program series (I think that's what it's called). I've caught a few in the past, but definitely plan to tune in Sunday. Although it has been a little hard to watch sometimes, I still find the program very educational, and ultimately I come away feeling confident about my decision to get clean.

ENOUGH. HONESTLY.

Yeah, and do you really think a group of addicts who are trying to get and stay clean need to read about this? Come on Kyle, you have been around a little while now and you should know that it is NOT about romancing the past or even sharing war stories. It IS about changing our behavior and learning from our past and learning new coping skills, no?  Pretty sad that I have seen at least 4 posts this week alone that deal with this "television" subject. Believe it or not, there are many members OVER THE SEVENTEEN YEARS THIS SITE HAS BEEN HERE that actually wish to go forward.

If you come away from watching that and feel better about yourself then good for you. but please have respect for those who may have cravings over watching it. This is not the place for sharing this. Sorry.

I agree with IBKleen.

At the VERY least, post it in the Social Forum.
This is definitely NOT the place for it.

I disagree. I think education can be quite eye opening. If someone has cravings when they watch these shows, then its an easy fix...DON'T WATCH IT. On the other hand, these shows about drugs can really open someones eyes. Maybe there are people out there still on drugs & if they watch one of these shows it will wake them up & open their eyes to what they're doing to themselves. A person has a choice whether to watch these shows or not...and I think if someone hears about a show on drugs they should share without being jumped on by other members. Jesus.

I have to agree with Kyle that this show and a few others to be are far more educational than they are a war story or positively representing that lifestyle. I think to quit drugs and remain sober you need to be able to overcome many obstacles and a tv show should be the least of your worries. The Nat Geo series shows the devestation and results of pill use. The show educates people on the dangers of using pills both crimanlly and physically (health). There are some shows on that i would not suggest those in recovery to watch but I think this program Is very educational. I don't think Kyle meant any harm by this had our best intentions at heart. I myself posted about a show that was on Nat Geo last week that was about using ibogaine for heroin detox. I know many members watched it and i was thanked for suggesting it. It is ones own decision should they choose to watch it. I know we are all at different parts in our recovery but for those that haven't stopped yet this show may open the eyes of many. I just wanted to state my opinion and that i don't think it's right nor nesscessary to scold Kyle that he should have known better or not posted this. I do agree however it fits more in the social forum but I appreciate you sharing it with us. Just my 2 cents!

I'm sry there is NOTHING disrespectful about this.U all r over reacting. This is a program that CAN DEFINITELY HELP all addicts(getting clean, struggling, long periods of sobriety). These programs show that pill addiction doesn't affect1age group, social class etc.It shows that it can happen2any1&helps a lot of people w/the shame+embarrassment they feel as well as feeling weak or like a loser. It educates that it CAN+DOES HAPPEN2ANY1.This program helps2take some of the social stigma out of people who become dependant/addicted+abuse prescribed medication as well as bringing the fact that these pills are WAY OVER PRESCRIBED,people aren't warned properly of the dangers when they,as many of us do COMPLETELY trust our doctors.Cut Kyle some slack. This was a post meant2let people know YOUR NOT ALONE IT'S A COUNTRY WIDE EPIDEMIC so don't beat yourself up over your addiction it can happen2any1.The people here r fighting the good fight, getting sober&this program will HOPEFULLY bring MORE attention2how wide spread this problem is so some new laws can be passed.

@sandstone:not trying2argue+I have a lot of respect4u&IBKleen but just because someone who's been here a few weeks disagrees w/u,IBKleen or me who have been here longer doesn't mean its disrespectful.Yeah they have helped people,so have u,so have I+I'm sure the above poster has or will help others.U don't HAVE2agree w/someone here just because they have been on the forum longer. This wasn't meant2b a harmful post.No need2make someone feel unwelcome, uncomfortable or like they can't have there own opinion if it doesn't match ours. Were all here4the same reason. To get, stay sober, learn+educate.Let's keep it friendly

sigh...i wish this thread would go away already - i posted the comment when it was still in the SA Forum -which is what the problem was in the first place about the thread - it's location.   I don't mind if someone disagrees, that's fine.  But it was obviously a misplaced thread, and her comment was a bit over the top.   That's not how it works here.  I'm not concerned about it anymore and neither is she, considering her LOL when she asked about it in her above post.  I'm done commenting on it, and as I've said before,
Enough ...just let the damn thread die already.

I think we can all agree to disagree sometimes without sounding condesending?? We're all here to help each other, not to argue. I think this is one topic we should all just drop??

Hi, folks,

What started as a "heads-up" kind of post seems to have gone all over the map.  If you decide to watch this sort of program, please be aware that "war stories" and "love stories" tend to trigger cravings in many people, and you do so at your own risk.

That said, I've removed a number of personal comments in this thread, which seems to have run its course.  If you'd like to continue your discussion with other members via PMs, please feel free to do so.

Claire
