What does the gold stars next to your name mean, how do you get them?

Hey,
I noticed the gold star next to my name and I noticed how some people have a bunch of them also. I know it represents a "top addiction answer" but does everyone get them if they're answering questions?  Or how does it come about?

guess I should be asking some questions eh !! :)) That is screwy .. You would think that they had enough since to fix this seeing they are the ones that implemented it and I do not think it was meant for the repeat and I mean repeat questioners.. especially on the HIV forum.. geez that is nuts !!! lesa

i would think that the stars are site wide.  i know on the hiv prevention forum...you get stars regardless of whether you are asking or answering...lol.  the computer doesnt distinguish between the two.  so the more you post...the more stars you get.  we have ppl who have never answered...just repeatedly ask questions...and they have stars and are considered "top answerers".  doesnt make sense.
