for doctors

Should Doctors be blamed for this epidemy of oxicodone addictions? Should they be resposible for how many or how much to be prescribed? I think so...
A Doctor has a pasient with a pain problem and prescribes oxicodone, for how long? and how much a person can take before they are addicted to the drug?
Young people can abuse this drug, ok  but a doctor that cares, and takes  control of how much he prescribes to his pasients and how far he can let this people use this drug?
I blame Doctors, I think they know what they are doing and don't care about what this drugs are doing to ppeople.
My son is adicted now and I am going crazy so thanks to all the Doctors that care less for what happens to our children.
Thanks alot!

It's ultimately the responsibility of the patient anyway. You get a pamphlet with your drugs, and if you choose not to read that you have no one to blame. Everytime I'm given a drug, I research it! drugs.com is great for this like when I was prescribed Phenergen for a severe intestinal illness.

Perhaps this tread answers the question.....  some blame doctors for their addiction,  some blame addicts for making it so hard for their doctor to prescribe legitimate pain meds, others blame the lack of knowledge for their addiction, etc.  time to look within?

There is no one my child can blame for her addiction, altho I feel incredible guilt for "what did we do to cause this?"  (but I am slowly getting over that)  other than herself, by her own hand, no one to blame.  She became addicted to various drugs at 18  but she knew the risks, yet continued until she found the ultimate high of oxy....... which nearly destroyed her life in absolutely everyway, until she decided to get serious about getting clean.

She takes responsiblilty for her actions, and well she should.   I hope that was the first major step into her sobriety.

i believe that the sooner we face our problems in everyday living we will recovery faster
by blaming others it puts the focus on them and not me getting better
i go through phases where i hate suboxone and methadone clinics, when i got on methadone i was still in high school, but i still knew it was bad, well i later found out how bad it really is, the same with suboxone, but at the end of the day, i know that i placed myself in the situation to be put on these drugs, it was my choice
when oxies first came out they were for terminal patients, now every pain clinic in the world doles them out for herniated disk,or migranes, however the media has focused so much on the dangers of oxies that you would have to live under a rock not to know their addicting
i took my first oxie in 2001, i knew after that first one that it was a strong drug, anything that is that strong has to have a bad physical wd, these days if i get any kind of prescription i research it, eventhough all my doctors know i am in recovery a few of them have suggested potentially harmful drugs, its my responsibility to ask for an alternative, i have stayed clean through surgeries and chemo, just by going to meetings and keeping my doctors inforemed

The only blame I put on doctors is that they did not inform me of the longterm effects (withdrawal) & (addiction)........I had no clue what was going on when i just kept getting "the flu" and when I took a pill it helped with the symptoms!  whoo great cure for the "flu" haha.....I was clueless until it was too late.

Vicoden, Percocet, and the rest are "not" advised for long term use.  Because doctors know that withdrawal is not "life threatening" they put all responsibility on the patient.  Even if you take the "as prescribed" U will suffer..........

Opiates are a double-edged sword for the doctors and the patient.  Bottom line.

luv,
Nauty............

I too do not agree that the docs are responsible. We have to have a responsible role in our healthcare today. People and their mindset thinks meds are going to cure and they dont, they just treat symptoms. Example: antidepressants, people think they will cure you but dont understand they are not meant for you to be one them forever. We have to play a role ourselves in getting better.

The belief that doctors are at fault for all the abuse is misplaced I think. I've never met a doctor willing to toss pills at me, quite the opposite. They're under a microscope by the DEA and treated me as a pill seeker forever, when I never was. I don't abuse my medications, am not an addict and just wanted help for intense pain.

I don't believe the doctors are at fault here it is I that used the way I did not the good doctor. I do think that they good fill some in more on the long term effects but I am an adult with common sense and here as the big book says I did not use it regarding this issue. Mike

Dr's should make greater efforts to inform thier patients of the risks involved, and should also ensure that all other non-narcotic options have been tried(and failed) before using narcotics.
But in the end, society cannot function unless people are responsible for thier own actions. not just with drugs, with everything.
sorry to hear about your son, i hope he can recover well.

Nick.

There is room to improve a great many Physicians. But the Doctors are not the ones at fault for the pill problems.

yes the dr.'s have some responsibility for over prescribing but ultimately you are
responsible for the pills you put into your body.
I'm sorry about your son.

Good Luck to you both...,
