I had gastric bypass 5 1/2 years ago. As for my pain, I have pretty good pain control with Lortab, but I also take Soma or Zanaflex. I have DDD and DJD. The Soma helps with muscle spasms. Sometimes I only have to take 1 of the 2. The type surgery I have, my stomach is completely detached. No food goes into the stomach. It still produces gastric juices and the pass on into intestines. But for the pain... Yes I must break Lortab in half along with Soma and Zanaflex. I am on a butt load of other meds. The ones I can break, I do, and the ones I can't, I take more of a lesser strength. My pain meds take effect much faster after surgery. I also use a spray called StoPain. I sray on all affected joints. I smell like a walking menthol ad. I have a question for you all. When you eat sweets, what happens to you. My sugar shoots up to 500+ for about 30 mins.My doctor told me it would bottom out. What about you all?

Yes, I had gastric bypass srugery 5 years ago. I lost 180 lbs. But, you are right, we do not absorb like we used too. In order for me to get the full effect of any medication I have to break them in half. You cannot do that with Ibuprofen or aspirin since it is bad for our pouches. That's why I can only use tylenol that's over the counter. Even Naproxin is bad for the pouch. We are limited in what we can use. Have you spoken with your doctor about it?
Have a great day!
Hugs,
Janet
