Hypertension (high blood pressure) can really be lumped into two main categories as far as cause is concerned....
1) Primary hypertension
2) Secondary hypertension
About 80% of people with hypertension fall into the Primary category. It is unknown what causes it. It can be exacerbated however, by certain foods, disease processes, activities and such and so on....
The latter of the two categories, Secondary hypertension, is the result of something else...for example a disease process....and again, things can contribute to it and exacerbate it..
Both cases require treatment. There are a variety of things one can do...and when something that once worked, such as a medication, is failing, sometimes another one is added to the patient's regimen. This is called a stepped-care approach.
I would be happy to give you more information if you need it, but there may be a better forum here for you.....look at the top of the page and click on the second selection labeled Forums....there may be help for you there.

High blood pressure is a silent killer Meaning not a lot of symptoms.. I was born with it.. You may experience Headaches heart palpitations.. Depending on what kind... Weight loss helps to lower it in some as that is a hugh contributor... If not caused by weight or stress BP meds would be in order.. Hope you talk it over with your Dr...lesa
