my 5 yr old boy and I ran thru a TORNADO!!

wow im glad to be here and able to read and post! did we make national news here?? I wouldnt know as we were out of power since last night! it just came back on about 20 min ago. The first thing i did was make a wild dash for the coffee maker and get a pot of coffee going, i was afraid the power would go back off before i could get a pot brewed and I am one cranky witch without my morning coffee LOL  !!! Man it ***** when youre stuck in a dark, hot house with NO fans, no TV, no puter, no radio, nothing!

Last night we had a huge bow echo severe line of storms come from michigan. At first it was cool..earlier before they started....,my 5 yr old was out with me watching the storm clouds brew and i was taking pictures of the clouds and hoping to get a shot of lightning on picture. Anyhow the storm wasnt here yet, it was still a ways off but suddenly i got this weird feeling...i couldnt see or hear anything different, but just a feeling and i said to my son---RUN NOW, UP TO THE HOUSE  NOW!!! RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!!! and as we were running back through our woods thats when THE WIND GUST hit! OMG i forgot when a powerful bow echo storm comes, the wall of wind comes out ahead of the storm. so even though it wasnt raining or lightning/thundering right overhead yet, the heaviest winds hit and OMG there were branches falling all around us and it was SO LOUD, then dust started blowing across from a field a few properties down from ours. I honest to god thought we were in a real tornado! and then the tornado sirens DID go off and later i found out that they did spot a funnel cloud and rotation right over MY TOWn,  which made them sound the sirens even though the national weather service hadnt officially issued a warning. So there we were running for the house, my son still had wildflowers clutched in his little hand that he had picked for me (AWWW isnt he sweet!!) and we finally made it to the house to see the huge picnic table umbrella go flying across the yard and as we slammed the back door behind us, a branch fell RIGHT on the spot our feet had just vacated seconds ago! im serious we JUST made it in !!!!!!! it was crazy!!!  But the excitement doesnt stop there, oh no, LOL. more tornado sirens, high winds ripping trees down, hail, lightning striking every 2 seconds, then the power goes out. Then a car going down our road didnt slow down for the flooded low spot, hit it fast , hydroplaned, lost control, flipped over and took out a gas line AND electrical pole!! can you believe it?  ALso it rained all night. not jsut rained, but the front stalled over us, and we had the "training effect" where heavy rain just keeps going over and over the same area for hours.  We got over 5" of rain from just lsat night alone! (i have a rain gauge in our garden). Its insane, theres standing water all over, the garden plants are flooded and might die! unreal! I will try to take pics later if i can! Right now I have to go throw meat away that thawed out in the freezer since we were without power so many hours, this *****!

PS a buddy called me right after the power came back on and he;s the one who told me that our town and road made the news this morning LOL, and then he said... SOOOOO did you get any rain there?? haha we both started laughing hysterically for liek 5 mnutes straight at that.  He got 6 inches of rain out at his house and roads are blocked from the roads washed out. He also told me alot of main highways in toledo are or were shut down too from the floods and downed trees.

PSS my son wasnt scared at all. He kept saying MOM this wind feels GOOD!! and i had to keep yelling at him to run faster, he had no fear at all. Looks like he's gonna be a storm chaser like his momma here LOL

I love storms too, but having gone thru Huricane Charley as my house was distroyed all around me,as I hunkered down in the closet with my dogs, kind of put a damper on it. I was traumatized. Still love storms but from a distance.

LOL..maybe you should go for meterology..why not?? Get your own t.v. show..I like the storms too..We had some of the loudest thunder here in Michigan last night but it really didn't do much else..I am glad though because last month our power was out for a week because of the last storm/tornados.. Glad you didn't get hurt..

Savas- I agree! Nothing gets me more fired up than a violent thunderstorm, windstorm or tornado LOL.  I need to dig out my old storm chasing videos and watch them again. ONe time i drove us right into HELL pretty much LOL  (the car was rocking side to side from the 70 to 80 mph winds and lightning was literally striking trees down right next to us left and right. They dubbed it one of the worst electrical storms of the decade at that time it was so bad. Trees were down everywhere and i had it all live on tape (along with my brother and nephew with us making hilarious commentary along the way- its a classic LOL) ALso the lightning struck so close to our car that it broke my speedometer, fried it, never worked again.

Nauty- actually Im gonna take the meat back to the store because it turns out its on the new kroger beef recall list LOL.  I saved the tag off the package when i bought it (i buy the huge large family packages and freeze in ziplocks in 2 lb blocks) so i will get a full refund, yay!

and yes i sure do love weather. I wish i had gone to school for meterology. I also missed going to classes this spring for becoming a certified weather spotter. Maybe next year!!

Don't throw away the meat.  If the power was not out for more than 8 hours it should be fine........Dammm  girl.......You really love your weather.  I am a storm chaser too, but it's not too exciting in California.........where I live anyway.......

Glad you and your boy are safe.

Luv,

I've been "in" two tornado's in my life. Once, somewhere west of Pennsylvania I was road tripping and we had to stop under an over pass as a  tornado passed by.

The other was when I was at gig in upstate new york. A small tornado set down at the opposite end of the block I was on and marched up the block, dispersing a short distance from where we were. It wrecked havoc on it's short walk up the street.

It was so awe inspiring I got distracted afterwards and locked my keys in my car. :)

Glad you both got to witness it in reasonable safety. Everyone should experience mother nature at her most violent at some point in their life (safely, I hope).
