What to do if i crash my dirtbike in the future?????

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone who recreationally used narcs for a long time, then quit, live drug-free, then got into an injury, the doc will want to give pain meds and i have witnessed snapped femurs and compund fractures of tib/fib in my friend and myself have gotten metatarsels (angle bones) broken. I know i will get off this crap (i have done it for fun, not pain, at least after a month of a crash or whatever) but has anyone been back into ER and told them, I am an ex-addict but my leg is in 2 pieces, what should i do? Would epidural be an option? I am an action sports junkie, and it is almost certain i will be injured in the future, how should i handle the pains and the doctors trying to give them to me, and will i be albe to handle legitimate pains without the drugs? I know just even seeing one in my palm would open my eyes real wide and my tounge pant like a really hot dog. What did anyone else do in similar sit? thanks guys

After stopping meds and being off them for 2 years, I had two surgeries due to injuries incurred while working out; both times the physician provided me my DOC - percocet.  I am now aware of the dangers and understand the withdrawal issues; something I don't want to go through again.  If you use meds for what they're intended for, i.e. pain relief, and think about getting back to your 'action' sports' with a clear head, that should be enough motivation to stop using the meds when no longer needed.

Why are you concerned about something that may, or may not happen in the future? That is like asking "What should I do if I die tomorrow". Do yourself a favor and stop being concerned over something you have no control over. If it happens, you can deal with it then. For now, one day at a time my friend....

Relax and enjoy life.

You have done well. Never trust yourself around these pills. It is a good policy to have.

well I told my doctor not to prescribe them to me unless I'm missing a limb or in the hospital with serious trauma. it's your pain as they will tell you. tell a family member that you have told about being addicted. giv them the pills, they must have them with them at all times. if possible don't have it at your house. they are to give them to you as prescribed. I know that's my weakness and everyone is different but I know if I was in control of it I would be back to square one lol just try and remember you are recovering and you do not want to be addicted again. even if you take them as prescribed you may still have wd's but it's betterthen sitting there in pain. just stay focused on not getting addicted again and they are only for pain, your whom ever you choose to hand out meds must be aware of this and giv them to you as prescribed. you can't trust yourself around the pills you know this much :) God bless

You put a plan into place.  You have someone hold the pills for you that you cant blow sunshine up their butt and will only give them to you WHEN NEEDED.  You seem to have it in your head that this will happen.  Maybe just try and be more careful on your dirtbike.  I am almost 50 so my biggest concern is falling off my bicycle!!

Yours truly just had back surgery on the 7th. I stopped pills 2-1/2 days ago. You can do it, but never trust them to do it alone. I used to be extremely active on the forum. I used that time to help others and to help myself. I tried to learn all I could about the drugs, their behavior, and what made some win and others fail.
My opinion is that once clean, it is hugely up to you and your state of mind about the drugs and their power over you. If you think you can beat them on will power alone. I believe you are destined to fail.
