Advice please

Started seeing a psych doc yesterday for my depression, anxiety that's has a huge hold on me. Also told her of the taper that I'm doing for oxycodone. In a round about way she suggested methadone and said it my be better for me. I'be heard of a lot of horror stories bout this drug and wanted to get so thoughts or advise from anyone that took this to come off of oxycodone. I have severe psoriasis and psoriaic arthritis right now it's all over my entire body, scalp and all. My feet are completely covered so bad that I cannot wear shoe and my hair is falling out even though I get Remicade Infusions every 4 weeks and take Methotrexate. My skin was under control for about a year then suddenly it came back 100 xs worse than before I started these meds. So my pain is like never before and very dibiltating. I need pain medicine but at the sample time I have to get off of it. Any one that has used Methadone please respond and let me know what it did for you. Would really appreciate it.

Thank you all for responding to my post. Sorry I didn't respond back sooner but I've been having some issues at home and 5 days ago I fell down a couple of steps at home and hurt my ribs pretty bad and toe. The pain was getting bad the next morning so I went to the ER and they took X-rays of my chest and foot. No broken ribs just some blood in there which will go away big contusion and outside bruising and I broke my big toe. That was Saturday. My pain continued to get worse and tried to tough it out. Last night the pain was intense in my chest and back and shortness of breath also hurt like heck to breath. So I went back to the ER this morning ( my mom insisting since they said if I didn't feel better in 2 days to come back....it was like 4 days). This time the doc was great he made me feel like I mattered. He ordered blood work, EKG and a Cat Scan. Results from the scan came back with no broken ribs but Pneumonia in both lungs. Looks like its been there before he fall. Wanted to admit me but with my anxiety and had to take care of my son (which my mom is caring for him the last couple of days) I told he doc I needed to go home. So things have been pretty bad for me lately. I just wish I could feel "normal" for a half of a day. It's been so long that I even had a ok kind of day. I honestly don't know how much longer I can go on like this.
I did decide to stay on the taper. Thanks again for your time.

I agree with Ms Kanas.

Many times subs or methadone is dolled out to ease getting off hydros (norco), vicoins, oxys etc.  It makes quitting what you are on easy but is a stornger opeiate/synthetic.  The synthetics take longer to withdraw from in the end.   WDs are the inevitable way to be free.

That's an article you should read.  Methadone is listed as the hardest....and oxycodone is #4.

The psyc.dr is simply not informed!  It would be a huge mistake to get on methadone to "help" with oxy w/drawals.  There are many other good health pages on here (scroll down all the way, r.h. side) too.

You will need to decide for yourself, of course, but you'd be putting a stronger opiate in your body.....not less.  And your w/drawals would be harder and longer.  It still amazes me how many "dr's" out there know absolutely nothing about "harm reduction" meds.  My psyc dr. was a complete wacko and never should have put me on subs.  I should have just weaned off the hydros I was taking.  Live and learn.

Your skin issues sound horribly painful......have you already sought all the help you can thru dermatologists or other internal med people?

I'm glad you are posting.  Hopefully, you will be able to decide for yourself what is best.....and I'd look in to any nutrients you are deficient in, too
Your body sounds like it is asking for something.....dunno....just thinking outloud with you.

Blessings to you~

If you want off of pain meds and are doing ok with the taper and not still taking to much I would just continue the taper  with the oxycodone over switching to a stronger drug.

Good Luck and Godspeed
