Am I rejecting Suboxone after over a year?

I've been on Suboxone for a year and a half, currently taking 24mgs daily. One of the worst effects for me when I was taking 30+ pills a day was all the stomach problems it caused, constant nausea, reflux, heart burn, throwing up all the time. I felt great on Sub for at least the first 6mos, slowly since then I feel my health has gone down hill again.. Maybe I need to taper? Maybe I'm taking to much? At first as long as I took my stool softeners id be fine, but I can't even keep up on that! I've gone the 'bathroom' a couple times in the last 3 weeks?! I've been having the worst acid reflux, so nauseas constantly and have started puking regularly even if I eat only an apple or drink water?! Am I just sick from being backed up- which I've dealt with before- but with this becoming constant, could I be rejecting it all together?

I'm pretty sure 24mgs of suboxone is a really high dose.  Yes you want to taper, that is point of being on the suboxone I was under the impression ie taper right off to a very low dose a then jump.  Hopefully some people with personal experience with subs will chime in.

The being blocked up will not be helping the situation as that plus a high dose will be making your body very toxic.  Try using coconut oil for a laxative as I found that was far better than anything over the counter I used to use and didn't make me feel so horrible as they do.

I'm no expert on constipation so I did a little reading.  Bowel movements vary greatly from person to person but less than 3 movements per week is considered "constipated".  You fit that category.  Deal with the constipation by seeing a doctor to make sure you're not impacted.

I think it's very likely you are taking way more than you need.  I can't be specific but I can refer you to a website that can help you make an informed decision.  I'll send that your way today.

Cheers,

Larry

It always blows my mind when I see people being prescribed 24+mgs of Suboxone, these sub doctors are so blatantly out for the money. Try to taper down, most of what you're taking isnt having much of an effect on its intended symptoms anyway.

Yes that is a very high dose. Start to taper down.

Hey, I was on suboxone for 8 years....32mgs a DAY!! I was not able to taper so I just jumped. It was not fun! Today is 60 days clean for me! There was absolutely no need to take such a high dose. Please start to taper yourself. The longer your on it the longer your withdrawls will be. I'm here if you have any questions. Good luck!!!!

Everyone is different but I've seen functional MRIs of brains on Suboxone.  At 4mg - 8mg per day the receptors are completely flooded.  No apparent need to dose above that.  I personally think 8 is probably overkill, again, we are all different.  Suboxone is a great drug to break the addict behaviors and to help the brain's reward center reset after pummelling it with full agonist opiates.  Its probably not good to be on it longterm.  Its actually pretty easy to taper down and jump off.  I'm a typical addict and I did it.

I have to agree with all the above.
However, any type of opiates, synthetic or real will plug up the Receptors in the Stomach too. They now have a commercial about taking a med to help relieve or unplug this for those who have to use pain pills. What next??
Hope you are flowing free today!

I forgot to mention, high five for jumping from 32mg/day and making it 60 days.  Keep it going!

You should really get a notebook and write down some of the things that the community is telling you and bring it to your Sub doctor. Ask as many questions as you need to and DON'T let that Dr leave the room until EVERY question is answered! Constipation is no joke! Especially if you're nauseated. I almost had to have surgery because of constipation caused by various drugs (I had 7 years of chemotherapy before I became addicted to pain meds). I have a long term vomiting disorder now. My bowels are so damaged from prescription drugs that they don't absorb the nutrients that my body needs from food or vitamins. My hair has fallen out so badly that I have to wear hair pieces, wigs, head bands, etc. I have osteoporosis. I have had 19 confirmed broken bones. I can't even guess at the actual number because I don't always go to the dr or ER if it's just a toe or finger. I can't work or have children either. I let it go too long. If you can't speak with your doctor right away, your pharmacist will help you find something over the counter that you can have in the meantime. There's an over the counter med that I have found helpful called "Colace". But, please, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take anything.

Also, I was told that anything over 16mgs/day can't fit into your opiate receptor. My Dr said that Suboxone has a "ceiling effect" at 16mgs, so there's no physical benefit of taking more than that amount.

You listed a lot of side effects. The most frustrating for me is the swelling. Do you get that too? I will go up/down 4-12 lbs a day, but my dr said that Suboxone doesn't cause swelling. I have read several people are having serious weight issues from the swelling, but it's not even listed as a possible or rare side effect.

Ive been on and off subs for a while but for the last yr used them to be clean amd get my life and myself together (before i just used them on the days i couldnt get high) but i was on 8mg and it worked ok for a while and then my ins changed and so did my dr...my new dr uped mine to 16mg with a 6 month plan of therepy meetings and then tapering back down...i dont want to be on them forever but i truley believe it helps while you are changing your lifestyle as long as you have a plan and are putting in the work...however some days i feel like 16mg isnt enough and then im like wtf am i thinking bc before 8mg was fine so i force myself to not take more and once i get it out of my head im fine...i would really suggest talking w your dr about everything and tapering down if your able to...also im not sure if youve been on top.of your regular heslth but make sure it isnt something more serious and not just the subs yanno...good luck!
