Bad Sub Doc??

When I decided I wanted to try Suboxone to get clean, I went to Suboxone.com to find a certified doctor.  I called one on the list that lives near to me and called.  They told me I could come in that afternoon and that he required at least 4 visits for $250.  I said "wow, that is a great price".  I made my appointment and went in.  After I talked with the doctor for a while, he discovered that I had taken my last pill 14 hours ago and would need to come back the next day and it would be another $250 dollars.  He said his receptionest should have told me about the 24 hr thing and the visits are $250 each.  It is not an unrealistic price to what some charge, so I agreed to come back the next marning.  He gave me a couple Restoril and Zyprexa to take over night to keep me from feeling to sick.

As I was getting ready to leave, he also gave me my prescription for the Suboxone, for 60 8/2mg pills.  He again asked about insurance and I said I had none and he said these pills are going to cost about $400 dollars, but I was willing to pay it.  Then he said wow I feel bad for all you have to pay so here are some coupons for Lexapro and Zyprexa for a month free of each.  "That is just like I am giving you $100!!.

I went and got the Sub filled, $386 and the free Zyprexa.  I had forgotten the coupon for the Lexapro so I didn't fill that one.  AFter several days I started having twitches and jerking motions, especially at night and became impacted in my bowels.  I decided to look up some info on these drugs since he didn't even tell me what they were for or what type of meds they are.  I was already on Paxil for general anxiety and it was working fine.

Here are the problems I see:

No drug screen or blood work done to see if I was even on a narcotic or if I had benzos in my system that could cause severe interactions with the Sub.  Liver panel is to be done to check a base level for all three of these meds

My psych history was never talked about, the fact that I was on Paxil, had anxiety, etc.  He just described two very dangerous drugs out of the thin blue to make me think he was helping me out on the money end.  The Zyprexa is indicated for schizophrenia or manic depression and Lexapro is an anti-depressent that is contraindicated when you are taking Sub.

What should I do?

Nothing?

Let Suboxone.com know of my experience?

Call a lawyer?

Call the doctor himself and say what in the hell are you doing?  (I quit going after I figured all this out)

I am just really upset of what could have happened with all these meds and that he may hard someone with this program and I know I will get good advice here!

I plan on continuing to share my taper and advice for others with opiate addiction and sub withdrawal and to search for my own answers as I go.

Hi again Wildwoodone ----  I wish you well as you quit the Sub.  I also hope you will return to this site from time to time and post your own experience with Sub.   Many people will want to know your opinion and how you feel about it after you begin to come off of it as well as when the process is over.  Good luck.

I'd call the state and ask them about this guy...and tell them what happened to you.  He could very well hurt someone.

I was on 8mg two times a day for a week and now am halving that starting today.  I was only on the 16mg/day for one week so I plan to be off in two weeks.  I guess I should let the doctor thing go but I am afraid he is going to hurt someone with the psych med free coupons he is throwing around....

Wow!!  That is a lot of money.   Some of the doctors who proscribe Sub are reputable -- some are not.   Most see it as a great supplement to their practice as they know that the addicts who come in for treatment will continue to come for many years.   In order to get approved to prescribe Sub, a doctor only needs to take an 8 hour (on line) course and is then licensed.  Sub is highly addictive --- yes, it works to relieve the W/D's from other Opiates b/c it is an Opiate - a much stronger one than the DOC of most of their patients.  I was on Oxycontin for 14 years - at 140 mg/day ---- I thought Sub was the perfect way to come off of Oxy and not have to suffer W/D's --- I was partly right --- No W/D's ---  until I tried to come off of Sub ----  I stayed on Sub for 21 days - starting at 2 mg- twice a day and then tapered to only taking a 'crumb'.  Then I jumped and suffered horrible W/D's for almost 2 months ---  The W/D's from Sub were ten times worse than had I just continued my taper on Oxy and jumped off of that.  I did not know, nor was I prepared for this experience but after reading the posts on this site, I learned that many others had also experienced what one doctor called "The Suboxone Spanking" ---  I would call it the Sub beating ---   The Sub web site (there are several) all sing its praises --- few who have ever been on it and tried to come off join in the chorus.  I would recommend you go to the Health Pages (top right of your screen) - go to the second page and read the posts labeled "Members experiences coming off of Suboxone."  Knowledge is power and this may help you.  After being on Sub for only 3 weeks, I personally think that Sub could be used but for only 10 days or so - -- anything longer will have you hooked so badly that you may have lots of trouble trying to let it go.  Wish you all the best.
