AC, you sound like you are scared,  I understand completely.  If your brother has insurance or if  you think he needs help,  then I would not hesitate to take him back  to the ER.  The good news is, if they send him home again,  hopefully this will help you feel more comfortable caring for him.   I understand that he is over 18,  but I would be adamant about talking to the doc if do go back, as your brother doesnt sound capable of understanding what the doc is saying.......ask the doc to write it down, or the nurse,   they need to give you info on what to look for, how to care for him, etc.         I have no medical training  but you sound afraid    and I think it is always best to err on the side of caution.  Take a deep breath,  sweetie,  and let us know how he and you are doing.

Do you have the doc's name that saw him at the ER?   To ease your concern I would call the doc after hour answering svc,  and see if he needs re-admitted.   You might also call the ER and see if you can talk to a nurse that can pull his chart since he was just there the other day. Did they give you any follow-up instructions,  or what type of behavior to anticipate for the next few days?

Will he have long term damage? How many more days is this going to go on?

he should be ok I have used benzos abusively as well in the past and I am still here. It has him loaded for a while unless he is taking more. Memory loss is a sign of a hell of a high. Black outs are what benzos give at high doses.
