worst part of all

I was reading all the old posts (archives, ect) and I noticed one common thing in alot of these stories --- people going into for routine dental work, routine surgery, or even life altering surgery..... after surgery or whatever the smiling doc gives you a prescription for pain (just until you feel better)... in my case the neurologist had me on celebrex, lyrica, dilaudid, and lortabs before surgery.  After surgery I did not use the morphine pump at all so they thought (as I did) that all was well.  Surgery does not work, go in for another, and now it is two years with constant narcotic pain relievers.  Second surgery is worse... sent home after spinal surgery from the recovery room while still bleeding, go back in, get dilaudid by I.V. till next morning.... Doc comes in and asks if I have a pain med addiction... no I don't (no one ever does) and he d/c's all meds... you know the rest... just about all stories are pretty close.... get you hooked and then wonder why you take them.... I never knew there is dependence and then addiction (both the same when quitting as far as w/d's are concerned) but no one ever tells you what is going to happen... and then doc acts surprised, mystified, and self righteous.... how can you do this to yourself? I don't know but I thought you had the script pad, not me........ just a thought

I hear what you are saying.... We do have to accept the responsibilty that we were taking them or in my case even abusing them but it is frustrating as anything when the dr's act that way.... but the truth is they get scared...so they kinda freak. That doesn't make it better or ok...I would like to think a good dr would help you through the wds even if it's addiction or dependence... but you know... not many do that I know of....but I handled my problem myself w/o telling the dr b/c I didn't want my chart being noted as an addict.. yes, i am one...but still don't want that label. you know?

well, there's my 2 cents!

I understand completely. I went into the doctor for heart / chest pain and they put me on a morphine drip... I was shocked because ive gone to the hospital before for my heart and all they gave me was a motrin for chest pain. Morphine??? And then they send you home with countless numbers of prescriptions. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack! Some people really need pain medications and I think they are good for people who have had terrible surgeries like yourself... but to give out these meds for people with minor injuries? I am sorry that your doctor is being that way... ]= Good luck!
