Day 19...very sad day. Not even tempted to slip tho!

My faithful bulldog, Mo, passed away on the way to the vet this morning.  He was considerate to the end, even making this potentially heartbreaking decision unnecessary.  As he took his last breath with his head in my lap, Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" came on the radio!  Mo did have an old rocker soul, after all.  Anyway, he is at peace and pain-free now.  It seems that one of his last gifts to me was to be by my side every miserable second of my c/t w/d's from those stupid pills.  I could never dishonor his loyalty by going back.  Anyway, as always, much love and support to all of you out there.  You also have made my journey easier and less lonely.

So sorry for the loss of your friend.  Your words were beautiful.  Born to run will always make us think of Mo now.

Oh Man, I just saw this post. I am so incredibly sorry. Nothing like the unconditional love from an animal. Sending you peace and strength. xx

I am so sorry for your loss.   I love animals....and I understand exactly how you feel.   I hope you will honor Mo's memory (when you are ready) by giving another dog a loving home.   There are so many dogs in shelter, waiting to be adopted.   Rest in peace, Mo.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I hope you are having a much better day today.  It is great that every 24 hours we have a clean slate with a better day possible.  Brightfutureahead, I am sorry for your dog's blindness. Mo was also blinded by cataracts the last year, but his heart issues prevented me being able to remedy it.  They can do very well without most of their sight, it just takes a little time to adjust.  Just don't stop suddenly in front of them...More than once Mo just about knocked me down accidentally!  Much love to all

I'm sorry for your loss.  Some animals just grab our hearts more than others.   I'm glad you didn't go for any pills.   It would be so easy to do and boy do I know.  I had a really bad day emotionally yesterday and I wanted to take something/anything to not feel the way I did, but I didn't.  That was the hardest day I had so far.  Felt like I had some black cloud of doom hanging over me.  Couldn't stop feeling sorry for myself, crying, angry, you name it.   Doing some better today.    All I kept thinking yesterday was I can't wait until bed time so I can start a new day tomorrow.   That's what got me through the day.

Aww I'm sorry to hear about your pup. They really are the best companions a person can have.

I have a 5 year old min-pin who just lost his sight over the course of these last few days. Diabetes related cataracts- they came on literally overnight :-/ I'm happy to have him still here with me but it is heartbreaking to see such a dramatic change. He has lost some of his spunk and confidence and is having such a hard time getting around. I don't want to use...just sad sad sad. Connecting with people to talk about it, and continuing to give him a good life helps me keep things in perspective.

I know it stings. They are so great. Sounds like you are doing fabulous :)

Again, thank you all for your kind words and the unselfishness you always show helping others as you do.  I saw a tv talk show last week showcasing people who have had near death experiences and believed that they saw heaven.  I was taken by a little 8 yr. old boy who had "died", said he went to heaven, and came back.  The first thing he saw there were the animals, along with loved ones that had preceded him.  I believe this as my truth, and sent Mo along in the care of my father and 5 yr. old granddaughter, who will be able to run and play with him until I see them all again.  Again thank you all for taking the time to communicate your sympathy.

Thank you all as always for your kindness.  Norco1947, I completely embrace the name change to "colorful" but am too tech-challenged to manage it!
