Day One of sobriety

I just wanted to announce that my quit date is today.  I have been taking around 50 mg of hydrocodone for the past year or so.  I took my last one last night and flushed about 50 down the toilet.  I woke up craving my usual dosage and can't seem to stop thinking of them.  The mental part will be the hardest for me to conquer.  I called in sick to work and plan to use the weekend to detox.  Support is very much needed!  Thanks.

Congrats on getting your life back.  Stay positive.  Check out the amino acids in the health pages.  We need to replenish our body with something good.  Drink plenty of fluids and get up and move around as much as you can......Reach out for support.  You can do this!!          sara

Congrats on flushing thats a hard thing to do but makes me think that you are ready to quit the opiates. You are in for a tough few days but its worth it. You will see that for yourself. Craving and so on is all part of w/ds but worth the fight. One thing at a time get through the w/ds then deal with the mental part. Witch i think is the hardest. But everyday isa fight to stay clean but you will and can do this. Best of luck yo ya girl, Ill be rooting for ya,,,,James

I am so glad you are quitting the opiates. You will be happier without the guilt.
It will be a rough few days, but you can make it through detox.
Take the nutrients and vitamins to help you get through it and then you need some aftercare to prevent relapse.
Good luck girlie and you will do it.

Congratulations on taking your life back! Stay strong and watch funny movies to help the time go by. Take hot baths for the aches and pains. The first 3 days will be rough but by day 4 you will start to feel the change. You can do this! I took advil and had a heating pad for my back. Also for sleep I took melatonin which is a natural herb and it can help you sleep. I am on day 14 now from a 3 year addiction from this stuff. I can tell you it was not a picnic in the park but I kept reminding myself that the WD's are temporary and I want my life back. You can do this my friend! Keep us posted!

Hi,

I also wanted to ask if you've stocked up on OTC remedies etc. Even if you don't think you want them it's best to get them in case.

It's not good when you decide you need them and all the shops are shut!

Congratulations on your decision. I'm sure you won't regret it.

Post often and we'll all give you all the help, advice and support that we can.

Go for it!

I am very proud of you! You're stronger than a lot of people...flushing away your pills takes a lot of conviction so you are obviously very dedicated to your decision. Just stay positive and know that it won't be easy...telling yourself it will be would be setting yourself up for failure. It'll be hard and you should prepare yourself. No matter how sick you get, you should force yourself to stay busy, keep positive, and I really think that going to meetings will help...even if you think you are too sick to go, force yourself to do it. The first one is always the hardest to make yourself go to, but once you do, you start feeling better mentally by 100%. So stay strong, and I'm very proud of you! Keep us updated!
