Do you lose the weight that methadone puts on you?

I have been on methadone for 2 years. I am 5'5 and before methadone 125. In the last 2 years i gained 90lbs!! Yes 90.
My doctor said that is was the mehtadone. I have detoxed off methadone, while the weight go away.
I go the gym 3-4 days a week. and while on it ,could NEVER lose weight.
PLEASE HELP THIS IS ALL NEW TOO ME.

A lot of you men don't realize that methadone will drop your testosterone levels to almost nothing (lower than girls even!). Your muscles will be perpetually weak and you'll never lose weight without testosterone replacement therapy. I started TRT and I'm on methadone. It's only been a month, and without changing how I eat (I never really ate much, but gained 50lb rapidly after starting MMT), I'm already noticing my body getting sculpted, fat burning away, muscles growing, being able to lift more than I could when I was 18 and working out all the time!

Hi Amie  well on the bright side as you taper off the methadone the weight comes off also  at least it did for me  dont even think of jumping off at that dose  the withdrawal would be horfic  I detoxed off this drug slowly and it was ruff but doable you need to be in single digets to jump off  go slow with your taper  and when your ready start a new thread  by going to the top of this page and hit the ''post a question'' button  we can help you off this drug  for me it was a struggle  but worth all the agony to get off  it is so so worth it not to be chained to that stuff  we look forward to helping you..........Gnarly

I am on methadone too  I've been on it since 2009  I was so depressed over a 40 pound gain thst after 2 years in 2011 I took my self from 140 to 70 then from 70 to 0 and went back on suboxone a week later  big mistake  the subs didn't help me anymore like they did before I went on methadone  I kid u not I was sick for 11 months  cold sweats never sleeping right,  got these bad brain zaps and my skin always felt so weird to the touch  so I lost all my weight I gained on methadone in 5 weeks  it dropped so fast that ppl thought I was smoking crack(the ones that didn't know know me)  I was so happy bout that but I never felt right  so I went back on methadone a year later  and gained the 40 pounds again  I tryso hard at the gym and to eat right  altho I get mad mad sugar cravings  I give in sometimes  but thid time I only went to 110 but I had to have back surgery so as year after the surgery they bumped me to 125  so I been on that for a year  then I started taking myself down   now I'm at 90 and I wanna go down to 80 for a couple weeks and so on  thry say as long as u don't drop more than 10% of your dose u will be fine  but I wanna know,  do u lose weight even getting to 50 and lower or do you need to be off off to start losing weight  I really think I retain water or something   I've never been big or chubby  I'm 5'5 always was around 130   but now I'm at 164!! I did lose 6 pounds  I just wanna get to even 140  I wanna wear shorts  I hate the way I look and as a female that's the worst feeling  everyone else says I put the weight on in all the right places and it's evenly distributed thru out my body  guess that's a good thing,  could be worse but I just wanna feel good about my self again   just know that it is gonna be a long Rd to get completely off  can anyone tell me they lost weight coming down and at what milligram if so  thanks
Hey so just wondering how fast did your weight come off after getting off methadone? I've been off for 46 days and I'm not losing the weight! I lost 20lbs or so when I started dropping, but after I got off completely I seemed to have plateaued..... I'm running everyday and pretty much just eating fruits and veggies. Does it take a while for the hormones or something to get back to normal before I can lose weight?

Hi,

I know this post is old, but I am wondering how things turned out for you.
I am on 65 mgs. per day for the past 3 years for chronic pain. When I was prescribed vicodin for pain I was thin, but my moron of a doctor switched me to methadone because of the amount of tylenol in the vicodin!
That day was the begining of the end for me!!!  I gained 60 lbs and I cannot even bear to look in the mirror!! I used to be thin, fit and healthy, now I look like a cow thats ready to give birth!!!!
What is the "pill" you spoke of???
I am literally so suicidal over my weight that I am ready to just stop "cold turkey" and go through the horrific withdrawls!!!!

Please let me know how you are and how things worked out for you!!

God bless,
Aimee

thanks for sharing your story, i really can relate. i've been on methadone for a little over 2 years and have gained 100lbs. i've gone from loving myself to hating myself, which has effected my relationships and my social life big time. one one hand i am grateful it is summer because i can hide my dimply thighs with a long skirt but at the same time sure wish i had the courage to put on a pair of shorts, of course if i had a pair that fit!! i have tapered down from 160mg/day to 90mg/day but went back up to 100mg/day as it was handling my chronic pain management better. i see the doc today about making the switch to suboxone. i've heard there is much better results with it so hoping, praying, for my body and mind back. thanks again for your share.
