cravings after stopping suboxone?

for those of you who have taken suboxone do you crave opiates again once you stop? some of you know my daughter has used opiates on and off for two years. the last six months very sporadically. i was suspicious that she has used opiates last week. i asked her to take a test, she preceded to tell me she had taken subs.
she said she is going to take them to get over the w/d and the cravings. IMO she is not a candidate for subs.
i told her all the people who wished they never started and want her to come here and read for herself. she gets them from a friend. i explained that is still addict behavior self medicating and getting them from the streets.
she is convined that the subs will stop the cravings and when she stops them she will "be all better".
besides the much longer withdrawal from the subs are there then cravings from stopping the subs?
thank you ,debbie

Her mindset scares me Deb.  She doesnt get it yet.  She has to change her playground and playmates but first she has to admit she is powerless and needs help.

thank you. i thought so. i had told her that and she said i dont understand and i never will because i am not an addict. she said my husband doesnt understand either because he is clean for 2 1/2 years., looking for excuses.i told her it basically comes down to her making a choice to use or not, cravings or not. that she has to work through the cravings, learn the tools needed to help her. i think the young ones think they still have plenty of time. she only turned 21  three months ago and thinks that going to bars and still smoking pot is ok. i said her mind and her brain are still foggy and using anything isnt help to clear it out. for her to think she can never drink or do anything again at 21 i guess is very frightening. i said she is still chasing the high, she gets so angry when i say that.

@ sara no she doesnt get it yet. my husband has told her that. she continues to hang around with her "old friends", many are only clean for a fefew weeks or months. one of her girlfriends is getting vivitrol injections for 2 years, such drastic measures.

she knows i have been on this forum for 2 1/2 years and have gained alot of knowledge and understanding of addiction. i have given her many suggestions as to what she needs to do to get and stay clean. she is trying to do it her way.

we are dead set against her using the subs. i hope and pray she will come on here. i told her i dont even need to know who she is.

keep us in your thoughts and prayers. we need the support and encouragement.
much love

"she is convined that the subs will stop the cravings and when she stops them she will "be all better"."

It will stop her from craving other narcotics while she's on them but what's changed so she won't after she stops? It's not a majik pill. YOU have to change. The Subs just give you the opportunity to do you. It's up to her to break old habits, cut old ties, get out of that lifestyle, and "get her mind right."

She won't have done any of that and will be right back where she was before going in it. I guarantee it.

Subs are nothing to mess with.  They will stop the cravings while you are on them but the bottom line is when we get off the drugs we are still left with all the reasons we used in the first place.  That is why we always preach aftercare.  We have to work thru our demons and learn the tools we need to stay clean.

When Sub came out it was labeled as the wonder drug.  Noone bothered to mentiont that coming off it was brutal.  Drug companies seem to not mention that sort of thing.

I took subs for a total of 16 days to get through a methadone detox, another long acting opiate. I started with 8mg and tapered immediately down to.5mg a jumped off. No, I have had no craving. I have had physical withdrawal. The strong affinity and long half life of subs has helped me to deal with the methadone insanity. It gave me a break from the chain of addiction and helped me to form a realisitic plan, NA, counseling, telling my doc, family, and friends about my addiction and plan. I was in a pretty bad place and the subs saved my life. I do not suggest subs for hydros, but if someone was dead set on it I would not take subs longer than 7 days, the length of time acute withdrawals usually last for hydros. That is not long enough to get addicted, but could help give the addictive mind a break. Subs should be used as a complete plan of recovery, not avoid withdrawal symptoms. You still get sick. Hope my experience help and good luck.

I have been on suboxone two different times.  Suboxone is a very strong opiate with a long half life.  It is ment to be tapered down very slowly.  Even after I tapered down to a very small amount I still had withdrawl symptoms when I discontinued it.  She really does not need to be taking and dosing herself not to mention if she gets caught with it she could get into a lot of trouble.  good luck
