Forced into withdrawal

Hi Everyone,  I found this by doing a search. I have spinal stenoisis and im on ms contin and oxycodone for the pain. I take 60 mg of ms contin 3 times a day and 60 mg of the oxycodone every 4 to 6 hrs a day. but sometimes lately ive been taking 90 mg of the oxy, to get threw work. I've been on these meds for 2 yrs. Ok now heres the problem, my ms contin was stolen. I think by a supposed friend but i have no proof and my dr will only write me a new script if i call the police n press charges but like i said i have no proof n i dont want to make any accusations and get the police involved without any. So im basically bein forced into withdrawal. I still have my oxys but i dont want to take more of them to compensate for the lack of the ms contin and plus wind up short with nothing before my next appt. So im not sure what to do next and what to expect?? I have practically 2 and a 1/2 weeks before my next appt. I've been having headaches, rls, i cant sleep and i cant stop crying! Any advise would be appreciated.

agree with above posts tho...when drugs become this important to ur daily functioning...not being able to survive without them...when not having them throws u into a panic situation/enuf to seek out an addiction forum for help///it is time to lock em up....scary to me tho....and also a reason to reflect on where I am at and what I am doing in the search for pain control...we r all different tho....and u need to do what u need to do...but if i could not saurvive 2 weeks on 180 mgs of oxy without concern//i may would take a look at my plan for paion control...and if i was truly using this huge amount of narcotics for purely pain control..narcotics were not made for long term use..people do it and dr's rx them..but tolerence gwets u into deep doo doo....the ndose of narcotics u r on would kill a person who had no tolerence,,,in a heartbeat

Good luck to u..u can make it 2 weeks/i would think anyway/on 180 mgs of oxycodone for 2 weeks...that is alot in itself...high dose without the ms contin..if it is actually controlling ur pain and u r not abusing these meds///i guess/more power to ya...u r taking over 300 mgs of narcotics per day!  This is an addiction forum so ur dose will be an issue//for me anyway/this is a tremendous dose daily unless u r dying of cancer or sumpin....but seems as if u know what u r doing?   contol by an outside force such as drugs can hit u hard when u r dependent upon them...from urpost it seems u r only physically dependent??? yet u posted on an addiction forum///It is xtremely unusually for a dr to rx this dose of narcotics to a person....their license can be pulled in a heartbeat if they r investigated so hence/if i were ur dr i would be catious as well...be safe...180 mgs of oxy dily would seem to be enuf to pull u thru this crisis...fact is..it is a crisis and that is scary...morpine at 180 mgs a day plus 180 mgs of oxy a day is a rare script from one dr...what is ur pain problem...just curious because these types of doses unless for a terminal patient can land a dr in jail?  quick?

I agree with the above. I am currently tapering and it is going well. Like recommended above, I would just do the math on how many pills you have and how many days until you can get a refill and space them out. You might not feel great but you shouldn't feel to horribly awful. You'll get by just fine. Hang in there bud. Best of luck.

Great advice kolo,

I agree the WD should not be more than a couple of days if you still have the oxy's.  Your Doctor is a jerk, it does not sound like you are abusing.  Have you had to have meds replaced before?  If not, he should be willing to cut you some slack given he MUST know how you will now be feeling without them.

Get a new Doctor AND a lockbox.

Thats what is so horrible about all this.  When things like this happen...It could be anything...take too many, lose them.  they get stolen..etc...look at the mess it puts us in.  Its not like other things that get lost or stolen..or you use too much..they could steal your car...and we won't go through withdrawl .....thats one of the many reasons I want this to end so bad...I'm " WAYTOOTIRED"  of the whole thing...my life revolving around those darn pills..and the misery they cause...I'm at the point..that  w/d is easier than  the constant battle  making sure I don't run out....I start mine tomorrow...I know I have a long row to hoe..

Thank you all very much for your advice and support. And thank you Kolo13 I was scared of going into full w/d. So thats what im going to do is stretch them out. I did make a police report, but was told it would take a day or two to get the offical report. And i've also decided to take twizted's advice and get a lock box, something i thought about doing before. Like they say live and learn. I had to find out the hard way. But nothing like this is ever gonna happen again, thats for darn sure. Im just gonna take it one day at a time. But thanks again, i appreciate everyones advice!

Oh my goodness. Doctors that are willing to treat pain are under intense scrutiny and theft of narcotics is a very serious crime. The board(s) that scrutinize your doctor aren't necessarily going to care who "stole" the drugs; it's enough that narcotics given to you, by him, disappeared. In fact, you've put your doctor in at least a little bit of a pickle by reporting a crime to him without reporting it to the police. You don't need proof to tell the police you were robbed and get a police report. That could come back at you. I'm so sorry, I wouldn't wish forced WD on anyone, but you do still have the heavy half of your drugs, right?  Stretch them out until refill day, you won't get full on sick. And please, you know now that someone in your circle is willing to steal your drugs; make sure they don't get anymore.

I would report the stolen meds to the police and let them do their thing.  That is no friend if they are stealing.  Protecting someone like that isnt doing them any good........sara

Is there any reason that your doctor would suspect you of using? If not, he is a jerk, and I would get a good referral for another opinion. I knew that sounds a little like shopping for prescriptions, but if you are honest with yourself and with your doctor about the WD etc. It seems to me that something could be arranged. Unless there is more to the story.

Wait and see what other people suggest:
