Getting off Percs

I am in constant pain and I am taking way more percs than I should be.  I need to get off of these but I don't know what to do because of this pain that I suffer with.  Can anyone help?  I am attending a substance abuse treatment class this Friday and I hope I can get some help there.  Any advice I would greatly appreciate.

Hi

Looking at what's out there to detox off of methadone...looked at the rapid detox in Detroit by clarity which is done in 3/4 days but not too convinced of this method....I have found a treatment done by the Coleman institute (Accelerated detox) which ease u into detox slowly, takes about 8-10 days....does anyone have any info about this method by the Coleman institute.

Thanks

Thank you so much.  I think I will be honest with him so maybe he can work with me more.  That makes sense.  It really helps to talk with someone about it.  I have no-one to talk to.

I really think you should be honest with your doctor about how many you're taking. It sounds as if you have legit pain issues that need to be addressed. If you're taking the pills strictly for pain, and not to get high or for emotional reasons, then you may be dependent. I seriously doubt he will cut you off when you obviously have a medical need for the pills. He'll most likely appreciate the honesty and want to help you more if you demonstrate a desire to find other ways to manage the pain.

I am taking more than I'm prescribed.  I had neck surgery on 06/13, plus I have fibromyalgia, chronic pain syndrome, a cyst pinching the sciatic nerve in my lower back, and tmj.   I haven't told my doctor that I am taking too many for fear of them taking me off the meds completely.  I am working with him to find alternative methods to control this pain but so far nothing has helped....I've had injections and physical therapy and different exercises including yoga

Hi and welcome! I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain. Have you spoken to your doctor? If you're in severe pain then you should come up with alternative pain management plans first (acupuncture, water therapy, yoga, etc). Are you taking the percs as prescribed or are you abusing them? It's important to be honest with your doctor and reach out for help. Good luck!!
