Percocet/Tylenol#3

My father - aged 71 has been taking a combination of these 2 drugs for several years; going to 2 or 3 different doctors; of course one not knowing what the other has prescribed and going to different drug stores as well.
At one time he did have problems with kidneys.  I believe that has been alleviated.  However, I would like to know the long term affects (I'm guessing going on 20 years of these medications combined) of these drugs.
thanks for your help.

They can cause damage to a lot of different parts of your body.  I don't know what to say.  How many pills do you think he takes a day?  Do you think you can help him to stop? How is his health otherwise?  The reason I ask the last one is because if he is terminally ill with cancer or something, I wouldn't try and have him stop.  Maybe someone can be more helpful but I wish you lots of luck.

I feel your pain.  I hope you can convince him that you love him very much and hope he will get off these meds they will impact his kidneys and liver more and more as he gets older.  You didnt say what he took them for?  BUT he has to be a willing particiapant.  While 71 is old enough to make up your on mind it is far from being too old. As the aging process takes a hold of you it gets easier to live with pain, by taking medication, BUT it also makes you not have any tolerance for pain when you take that much.  Maybe you can have him come read the forum.  AND WELCOME to the forum and you are great for helping him!

Mental fatigue, liver damage from Tylenol, kidney trouble as you mentioned, endorphin production is halted etc.. All of these can happen.
