I kicked methadone 3 times already. The slower you go the better. If you feel withdrawals then stop and let your body to adjust. I was on the methadone program before and they did the lowering for me. I went from 110mg down to 1 and stopped. It took me like 3 weeks to feel little better or have energy just to walk. You need Ambient or Triazolam for sleep. Plenty of rest and need to take time off from work if you can. This time i am on pills (it's my 4th time) i did water titration. I dissolved pill in water and tossed few ml every day or every week. It will let you decrease your dose at the lowest level possible. Remember, methadone is in top 10 most addictive medications on the market.
Hi there, and welcome! This is a great place for support. You had been on methadone for 12 years, so the longer you have been on the harder it is to come off. I won't lie or sugar coat it, it is not fun! I was on 130 mgs for 7 1/2 years and took a couple years to taper, I am sure I could have done it faster but I was scared, it really didn't seem to make much difference going that slow. You say you are not getting any sleep, well unfortunately that is all part and parcel of the detox process, your body has been so used to having the methadone in it and it really takes a long time for it to leave your body. I never slept at all for months on end, some people do though, I have been off methadone since March 2013 and I still don't sleep the night through but it certainly is better, very slow process. I cannot stress to you how critical exercise is, I felt tortured by doing it but knew I had to , and so glad I did! You may find your mood to be low, and have not much energy or motivation, this is normal. Leading a healthy lifestyle will get you better faster than anything. I had to go on an antidepressant 8 months after coming off methadone, that was like a miracle to me, but we are all different, some need it , some don't. The one I am on is awesome, don't feel like I am on anything, no side effects that I am aware of either. If you want to talk more, I am open to an email from you, hang in there, and I agree with gnarly that at this point you may as well just jump, as you are just prolonging the misery, Take care and keep posting for support .
I say the slower the better. I did that snd my wd's were minimal. Let your body adjust between each drop. It is not a race. We had one woman here who tspered very slow and when she got to 1mg walking off was very easy.
You can do this.
Hi...well cudos to getting down to 6mg that is ausum...once your down to the single digits you sorta in a constant state of withdrawal it is a long lonely road for all who do this if your not on the vitamins yet get up to walmart and pick up the 3 in 1 calcium/magnesium/zinc I know the dose for that brand start taking 4 with breakfast and 4 with dinner this really helps the withdrawal it take a few days to start working my take on this is your low enough to jump ship and start recovery tapering below this level is miserable...keep posting for support and message me if you need more info...Gnarly
Welcome,I was on methadone also I started a taper from 50mgs on October 14,2014 I found that taking vitamins and suppliments have helped along with eating healthy. I am completely off that s##t I did have some RLS cold sweats some sleep issues. How are you doing now?
A slow taper every week or so is best if u don't want to feel withdrawals. Also do it under a drs supervision. It will take a while but its totally worth it to be able to wake up every day and feel normal without taking anything. I was on 70 mg and it took me over a year to get down to 1.5 mg then I just stopped. I was uncomfortable for 3 days or so but after that I was fine. Good luck on ur recovery.
