As we close in on another year gone i want to share a few thoughts.......It is New Years Eve today and many activities are planned for this night.  Parties are happening everywhere and we as recovering addicts have to be very careful.  I know i preach the dangers of alcohol and i will continue to do so as i know the he!! it creates.  It is hard to turn down invites but there are other options out there.  Planning a family night is one of them.  Get some movies, pop, munchies etc.  Most places have meetings going on tonight, check it out.  Keep your babies close to home as this is amateur night and many think they are "fine" to drive home.  We all have so much to be grateful for so when the midnight hour rings in reflect back on all you have in your life.  Had many of us not cleaned up we wouldnt be here.  I want all of you to be safe, clean and happy.  If you are having a rough time tonight get on the forum, we are open 24 hrs a day 365 days a year.  As one guy said here "the drink bone is connected to the drug bone"~   GUARD UP!!! My wild night was2hours at chuck e cheese with my husband and4yr old.we bought fireworks.just finished lighting off half&taking a break.At home,safe&sound having a G-RATED NYE.I am really happy.my son is loving it.

Guess i am lucky that I managed to miss the line for the over drinking gene in my family.  And we had quite a few "over drinkers" in that line.  Never really liked the flavor or taste of alcohol.  Wish my hubby had missed that line as well!  :)  I did manage to find the line for over eating, over smoking and over caffenation (sp?).  I think I found the ***** line as well, according to my hubby!  

Sara brings up some good points!  Stay safe and stay clean and we will be here if you need to talk..  I am eating early with hubby and will be online afterwards.  Watching the NY in and let the amateurs have the roads.

These are all wonderful comments. I am so incredibly thankful that I ended this year and will begin the next clean and sober. I could not be more thankful for all of the people who stood by me through the really bad times and got me through to the good times...primarily my wonderful husband. I put him through so much now I intend to give him a clean and sober wife to make ammends. Happy new year everyone!!!

Thanks Sarah, great post. Alcohol always started the ball rolling for me. I used to get so loaded on New Years eve that I'd zonk out before **** Clark! It's great to have my life back again, and God willing, I think I'll keep doing the legwork to keep things going this new and much better way. Happy New Year!

This will be the first New Years eve i havent gone out and got messed up in a very long time and im so excited about it! In fact, my fellowship is having a meeting/party that is free that i will be going to! Never in my wildest dreams would i have thought i would be ringing in the New Year this way. Its amazing the difference 79 days makes :) Everyone have a safe , clean and SOBER New years eve!! Hugs to all! See you all in 2013!

Great post DS.

I am going to an early meeting so I can get home and off the roads. Then hubby and I will enjoy what I hope is a delicious dinner. After that it is pj's and a Civil War Documentary. We have popcorn, chips, salsa and home made sweet tea. It doesn't get any better than this. Tomorrow I will wake up (GOD WILLING) with a clear head and clear eyes and then it is time to start the New Year!!

I'm looking very forward tonight and waking up tomorrow morning knowing what year it is. He!! I'm gonna even know what day it is to...na is having a dance n marathon meetings all night. Going to watch the ball drop here in my town with recovering addicts. And then I'm gonna break out the orange crush that Sara has every year.

Don't put urself n slippery spots tonight. Alcohol will b everywhere. Guard up n sword down.

I always like saying that alcohol is the trojan horse for me. It sneaks in my desire for heroin and MDMA along with the lowered inhibitions which make it harder to fight. Tonight, I'm going to a meeting. Coming home and giving my wife the best lovin ever all the way through 2013! ;)

Many of us have found our drug of choice at the bottom of an alcoholic beverage.   Or tried another drug or alcohol to replace the one we gave up thinking we could control use of it as well.   My guard is up!
