Hi Rick. Welcome to the forum. You will never know your true level of pain for your back is until the Oxys are completely out of your system for a while. I agree with Pat, since you are already sick you might as well go through with it. When was the last time you took a pill? Are you doing anything to help with the symptoms?

Oh, and I also want to add that your back pain will get worse initially with detox, but it will improve the more time you can put between you and the opiates. I have a severe back injury and have over 6 months clean. I have less pain now than I did on opiates. This is a very common occurrence. Something to look forward to, eh? No pill chasing and less pain!

Hi and welcome! Before you start the Methadone, I would highly recommend reading some of the posts on here of people detoxing from Methadone. It is a very long, drawn out, rough detox and is much worse than shorter acting opiates. If you are going to go the Methadone route, you should do it through a clinic. Methadone doesn't work like other opiates. It builds up in your body tissues and levels can be unpredictable. It's easy to overdose on. (Sorry if you already know all of this. I just see so many folks suffering through Methadone detox and saying they wish they had just detoxed off of oxy, hydro, heroin, etc.) Just remember that eventually, if you are wanting to quit, you will have to suffer through some withdrawal symptoms. The only other advice I can give you right now is to cut your sources whether it's dealer or doctor. If you don't, it's almost a guarantee that you will find yourself in a weak moment and use. Set up a good support system, tell your secret, and plan on some kind of after care such as NA/AA meeting, counseling, etc. Let us know what withdrawal symptoms you are having and we can suggest stuff that might help. You are not alone in this. We are here for you and will be cheering you on every step of the way! Please keep posting. Congratulations on making the decision to quit and taking this huge first step. Take care of yourself and keep your head up.

Hi Rick
I have never heard of the oxy withdrawal with methadone.  I think you're just delaying the inevitable.

How long has it been since your last pill?  Since you are already sick, the easiest way would be to just bite the bullet.
