Will I always have withdrawals?

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and stumbled across the forum from doing research on Google. I've been on 10mg Loritabs and Percs for a little over 2 years because of a blown up back. I've got 3 herniated discs in my lower lumbar but recently, with lots of chiropractic work and many hours of hanging upside down on an inversion table, I'm virtually pain free. I was taking anywhere from 8-12 pills a day but 3 and a half weeks ago I decided to give up on the pain pills. I went through all the withdrawal symptoms but luckily my friend was able to give me some of script of Subutex and that was a life saver. I was drug free for 3 weeks but had to make a long drive which usually irritates my back so I decided to take a couple Percs. Today, I'm sitting her with all the withdrawal symptoms again and this is terrible. My question is am I always going to have withdrawal symptoms, no matter how long I wait before taking opiates again? I know that occasionally I will have to take a couple loritabs or percs to get me through a bad flare up in my back but I really dont want to have withdrawals everytime I take anything. How long do I need to wait before taking anything and not having withdrawals? Thanks in advance!

When I was taking the Subs, it was only for about 3-4 days that I first stopped taking opiates. I hadn't taken anything, even Subs, in 15 days. Last Saturday was the last time I took a Perc and this past week was terrible. Last night I finally got a little bit of much needed sleep and today is the end of day 8 of being clean. The only symptom that I have now is a little bit of restless legs but I'm already feeling MUCH better. After taking those percs last weekend, I think it will be in my best interest to just completely stay away from opiates. I'm just worried that a few months down the road, I'm going to have to take a few and instantly go right back into w/ds.

Let's not get nuts with the subs.  Some of it probably had to do with the 3 weeks of sub use, but mostly it is just the fact that there is no getting around some withdrawal symptoms when you jump ship completely.  I don't think it had anything to do with the few perc's you took for the car trip, it was most likely the accumulation of 2 years of perc/sub abuse combined.  You are feeling a little better no?  Just not sleeping normally?  I'm finding it hard to believe - if your use as described is 100% accurate - that you're experiencing full blown withdrawal.

I know that Subs are opiates also but I only used tiny pieces for a few days to get through the worst part of w/ds. I was finally to the point that I didnt have to take anything and felt pretty much normal. I took a total of 5 percs over last friday and saturday and, like you were, I'm right back into the worst of it.

Well the subs are opiates too.  I don't know where people get the idea that they aren't . I  don't know about how long you have to stay clean before your dont have wds when you just take them for a trip or whatever.  I know I used after 2 weeks completely clean I only took a few pills over a weekend. Monday I was back into full cold down to the bone wds.
