How to do This(Detox)

From reading some of the posts it seems like I am in the right spot.Right now I am very disquisted with myself and definately scared. Anyway I have been in recovery since 1996. The last year is another thing. Recently I finished a long and very painful treatment for hepatits c. And I used this web sight often. During this time I was prescribed a pain killer called Opana. Now I am finished hep tx but I can't get off of the Opana. My md wrote for Subutex 8mg. From what I understand I am ( to avoid withdrawal) not to use any narcotics for 24hrs prior to the first dose of subutex.
Is this a reasonable course of action. I do not like how I feel now and miss the life I had. My sponsor says to taper down which I have done. But then I justify increasing it again. Which is total BS. I NEVER wanted to feel this way again but hear I am. I am 55 and this last year has been very weird. But if anyone has encouragement or suggestions please let me know.

I hate this.....Lets see how long have I been taking this?  I think it has been about 7 to 8 months none stop. I know I took it during my tx for hep c which was 6 months and now its been over a month since I finished that. But no I haven't taken any thing else for pain. And this has been under the supervision of a md. If that really means anything. But the drug OPANA is oxymorphine. Its just another narcotic, its not long acting. I can start going into withdrawal in 5-6hrs. What I was thinking is to use the sub for a few weeks. I thought that would be enough. But now I even more scared. This pisses me off. As a recovering addict health situations are going to come up. That interferon was aweful. I liked my soberity and I want my life back. Thanks for the input guys please stay in touch
Thanks

I'm not familiar with Opana but I do know about Sub.  I just want to make sure I understand correctly, that you have been on this pain killer for 1 year? Have you taken it only as perscribed? Have you been takeing other pain killers during this time if you ran out of the Opana?  The reason I'm asking this is, you may want to try cold turkey first or tappering off the Opana, if you have not been seriously abuseing the pain meds. Suboxone should be used as a last resort, when previous attempts have failed and resulted in relapses. Suboxone is very addictive and the withdrawels from it could be worse than what you would experiance from your current pain med. I would hate to see you go from the kettle to the fire. Since you are already familiar with how difficult recovery can be, only you know for certain if you need the help of Sub or if you could do this without medication assistance.
As for starting Sub, you do need to be in withdrawels for approx. 24 hours before starting your first dose. If you taper off the Sub by 15-21 days you can avoid the addiction to it and just use it to by-pass the withdrawels from the Opana. I would reccommend 8 mgs the first 4 days then a quick taper to 1/2 mg by day 15. You should be fine then. After that you may still experiance some minor left-over withdrawel symtoms from the Opana, like sleeplessness, lack of energy and motivation. But you would be past the worst of it. If your doctor suggests you use the Sub longer than 15-21 days...Do not listen to him. It doesn't sound like you need to be on it long term.
Sub is taken Sublingual (under the tongue). Allow the Sub to disolve fully (5-20 minutes), do not drink, smoke or talk while the Sub is disolving.
If you have any other questions about Sub, you can PM me.
Good luck,
Magi

You have come to the right place for help and encouragement.  Like bandnmom said more will be on in the morning that will be able to answer some of your questions about subs.  You sound like you have the determination to get off these pills.  I am 47 and life is getting better everyday for me.  I have done it with a very strong will and determination to get off pills and stay clean.  Not always easy but very doable. Take those feelings of disgust and all and turn them into positive thinking.  This can be the first day of the rest of your life.  You can do this.  Keep posting and check this in the morning.   sara

I dont know much about Subutex but many do here and i am sure they wil help you out with this. I will say that the first step in coming clean from your DOC is admitting it and wanting it. From your post I can see that you want to be free from these pills. You are off to a good start. Good luck to you and stay strong!
