I used xanax and am totally mad at myself

Hi everyone. I am currently on suboxone for 3 weeks at 24mg a day forhve been on benzos for 6 years and my doc has put me on 1.5 mg od klonopin from long term use of ativan and xanax. I caved in today and refilled my old xanax prescription. I have taken 3 mg so far in the last 3 hours and can't seem to stop. Please help me everyone. My addiction psychiatrist is out od commision in the hospital and has nobody covering. She is in a practice by herself and I don;t know where or who to turn to. I have a bottle of 52 .5mg left. I keep looking at the bottle and it seems to be calling my name. I miss my oxys so bad (psychological at this pointt since I am taking sub). I miss the feeling of not feeling any of the demons that made me use too much. I was prescribed them for 10 yrs of chronic pain. I am in horrible pain right now and nothing touches it. My primary doc gave my ultram today and I am tempted to take more than prescribed. I even chewed that time release 200mg of ultram which just put me to sleep. I did this b/f I got the xanax. Please give me words of advice and help me stop this. Again, since my doc can' be there for me I feel so alone.I can;t tell friends or family obviously. I know that I am going down the road of disaster.

I personally take pain pills every day but when i dont have access to them i then switch to street suboxone, i have been doing this for a couple years now but sometimes i go a week or two before i result to taking the subs again. Lately i cannot seem to sleep and i have turned to valium while under the influence of suboxone. my question is if i mix the two drugs on a rare basis is this dangerus. Is it safe for me to fall asleep because im afraid i wont wake up. also i take the two drugs about 16 hours apart

oh, i agree...the only thing i have a hard time understanding is that suboxone has a ceiling effect and 32 mgs is the maximum dose prescribed (for addiction purposes anyway..)  from what i understand it is near impossible to OD on suboxone alone...BUT when adding high doses of sedatives or benzos is a HUGE problem which is why they overdosed, IMO..i am still learning about this ceiling effect of suboxone...do you understand it...?  its the only thing i regards to suboxone that i cant grasp...i have read and heard different explanations and none make sense to me
the only thing i can say from my own experience is i feel no difference from when i WAS on the max dose of 32 mgs then where i am now at 6 mgs...?  i feel the same....

It is true that the initial reason for the contraindication of benzos and Sub was due to injecting the meds, HOWEVER, there have been several reported overdoses via taking both orally.

I know that in some situations, a doctor will prescribe a benzo during Sub Rx...and like others have said, there are some that are safer than others.  But, I was VERY concerned to see the OP talk about a significantly high daily dose of Sub, along with 3 mg of Xanax in 3 hours...with the concern of her taking more.  Not to mention that she had taken Ultrams as well.  YOUCH!

I just hope that she was able to read the thread....before she took any more and found herself in a bad way!

I'm surprised that she didn't already know that mixing the two was a big NO-NO!  MOST Sub docs and Sub programs stress that over and over.  It's one of the first things they ask if one has used/abused in the past.

Hope you are doing okay, OnOxy!  Hang in there.

I started out at 32 mgs of sub,and am down to 6 mgs, but i have been prescribed klonopin WITH my sub almost from the beginning of my treatment, but at a low dose.  a lot of the dangers are from people who injected buprenorphine and benzos together, they died, so thus the warnings.  but that doesnt mean to take the xanax in large doses either, that alone is unsafe.  you have to be strong here and just save yourself hun...throw out the xanax, and stick to doctors orders.  i dont know about your sub doctor, but mine is EXTREMELY strict, which is good IMO, she insists on therapy, she insist on urine testing for other drugs and to also check the level of the benzos in my system.  so be very careful , you could lose your treatment option...my doctor throws people out of the treatment program until they are serious about it, after 3 failed tests, your all done...
so if your serious about getting well again, flush the xanax, it is the strongest of the 3 benzos mentioned and you should stop while your ahead...prevent more suffering for yourself in the long run...
and if your only taking sub for 3 weeks, you also need to think about tapering down as soon as possible...so you can stick to your plan of 3 weeks. 24 mgs isnt a lot, but its alot to taper down from in 3 weeks if you havent started yet...
if you have any questions, just let me know, i have a lot of sub info.
good luck to you!

hi,
I have been on suboxine since June. I had taken xanax for 20 yrs. The suboxine dr told me that xanax & klonopin are the worst to take with sub's. You can take to much xanax &  pass out and poss die. Especially xanax in large quanties. Beleive it or not my sub dr gave 2mg valium for anxiety. In my drug yrs I would have taken 40,50 mgs a day of valiums, always got them off the street, xanax i had a script for.. Now I take 2 mgs 3 times a day. I don't nod out like I did with xanax & sub.
I miss my xanax.. but at the same time I missed allot b/c I lived in such a fog. I also started on 3 8mgs sub a day .. I did that for a few wks & cut myself back to 2. Sometimes less. My anxiety seems to better . For me if I took a xanax now I would be afraid I wouldn't be able to stop. Morphine & vic's were my drug of choice , BUT if I was offered them or a xanax, I'd take the xanax. So now I just follow dr orders.
good luck

Seriously....you are putting your health, and possibly your life in serious jeapordy.

Do NOT take anymore Xanax.

BE VERRRRRRRY CAREFUL!

Benzos should NOT be taken concurrently with Suboxone.

Especially if you are not going to take it as directed.  It can cause serious respiratory depression.

Just make up your mind you don't need any morre.  Throw the bottle somewhere where you can't see it or flush them down the toilet.  Nothing is worth going back there.  You can do it, I have faith and will pray right now for you.
