Kitty go to some NA meetings and get into some kind of counseling. Be honest with your doc and tell her whats going on.

Only you can make that decision for yourself.

Perhaps once you are stabilised on subs, and your cravings go away, you can begin to make the life changes necessary for actively putting your addiction into remission.  I have tried to stop subs numerous times before I was really ready, and of course... no luck.

It wasnt until I worked a program while on subs, and started fixing henry that I realized I could come off the sub and be ok.  14days off and not a craving to be seen!  If you go the sub route, please be sure to start working some kind of program!  It will make things far more successful in the long run!

Best of luck,

Henry

Hi Kittycat,

Welcome to the forum.  If I understand your post correctly, you are taking sub, but you want to "use" so you take more sub that prescribed and you run out.  You also ask if sub is a "cure" for lortab addiction.

There is no "cure" for addiction.  Sub is simply a medication to help with opiate addiction.  It is a partial agonist, so it replaces other opiates to hold off withdrawal and it will also minimize the effects of other opiates  - to a point - if takes while on sub.  Sub can also help change the drug seeking behavior because one only needs to take one dose per day and people are no longer pill counting, etc.  If you want to continue to use, this tells me that you are not working any other kind of program and that you truly don't want to quit using.  Suboxone is part of a treatment plan with therapy, aftercare, and support.  If you are only taking the sub - and running out because you still want to use - then you really aren't doing yourself any good.  If I was you, I would do some real soul searching and really ask myself if I really want to quit using - otherwise you are going to continue down the same road with no change.  Best of luck to you.

Im on suboxone for heroin addiction and yeah, they are ok.Why in Gods name are you taking more suboxone than you've supposed to as they are partial agonists and you wont get any higher as they reach a ceiling effect.Im not being nasty, but I think at the end of the day there is a big part of you that does wants to get high.If you're taking opiates one minute then suboxone the next you will be all over the place and wont get stable. The buprenorphine in suboxone will also displace and block opiates from working properly.Dont start getting a habit with opiates and then take suboxone or you may go into precipitated withdrawal and its terrible...iv'e done it.I know its difficult, sweetheart, and most of the time we are missing and chasing that buzz, but you should give the suboxone a chance, just forget the opiates, and you will get a certain balance in your life.At least with suboxone you are not going up the wall withdrawing and your not hurting your nearest and dearest with your dis honest schemes to get drugs.Im from scotland,we have lots of addicts too,and I know its hard sometimes.Goodluck to you.

i don't understand very well what you are asking, excuse my understanding....are you addicted to lortabs and thinking that suboxone is a cure to it ?

well, no, there is no cure to addiction, there is only abstinence and working hard on your recovery after detoxing....but we will always be addicts that's the reason we must make life changes after stopping our abuse of narcotics.

and if you are asking if one needs suboxone to stop abusing lortabs ? depends on the person and his/her addiction.

anyway, if you tell us more about your story and your doubts.... :)
