naltrexone "confused"

hello,
my husband has been on naltrexone for the past year, and he wanted to stop talking it. so about two days ago he stopped, and has been complaining of sever headaches. can anyone tell me if stopping naltrexone has any side effects? or causes fatigue , headaches or etc??? or is it just an urge???

would love any help on this.

thank you for your time. :)

I just googled this and it does appear that headaches can be a symptom of discontinuing naltrexone. It makes sense because naltrexone sits on top of receptors and when taken away the receptors become hypersensitive.

I totally agreed.  Get into AA or NA meetings as soon as possible!!! Run, don't walk, if he isn't already going.  I go,  and I am STILL doing a taper from a prescribed drug.  He will get the support and tools to deal with this, to make it.  He doesn't know how to deal with life anymore.  And this is good for me to see because I am getting closer to the end of my battle with pills.  So thanks, and Private Message me anytime.
Hugs, Marie

thank you chris, i hope his recovery stays successful too.. tonight he told me he's having urges...i just encouraged him to hold on and be strong. after a year on naltrexone he is still finding it hard to deal with emotions. i guess naltrexone blocked most of his true feelings too.. i'm praying that this time around he will succeed. thank you for your concern and advice. means a lot to me.

yeh that would make sense, naltrexone blocks drugs/alcohol and natural emotions so your husband should start to feel normal emotions now.all the best to you suntopey, and i hope your husbands recovery stays successful

thank you chris, if the headache's continue to get worse we would most definitely go to a docter.

ps. thank you both for sharing, i was very worried. bt at least now i know its not because of naltrexone. take care :)

Hi,I am not too knowledgeable about naltrexone but I have taken it and can definitely say that it made me feel really strange.I would say anything that has the power to make you feel strange could definitely cause some symptoms upon discontinuing it.Someone else will be here with more knowledge than I but I would say it is definitely not urges or anything like that.
