Im so confused

i just has a lumbar fusion but has been taking 10mg vicoden for 6 years. my doctor wants to put me on 5mg methadone to get of of the vicoden. wont this just cause me to become more addicted to a much worse medication. im so confused

Hi Samers.. Welcome to the forum.. are you looking to get off drugs our are you and your Dr. looking for a maintenance drug ? Methadone is a huge commitment. tolerance grows fast. there are alternative treatments for pain that are non narcotic I hope that these options have been bought up.. I wish you well. lesa

How much VC have you been taking for that long?  Did the Doc give you a rampdown plan to get off the MD?

Hmmm...I don't have any experience with methadone, but I have heard that it's pretty hard to get off of if it's abused.  Some people have been able to use it to get clean, and others have had problems with it.  But like I said...i've never used it.   I'm sure someone with more experience with Methadone will come along shortly and be able to shed some light on the subject for you.  Good luck to you!  God bless!
