Is this just as bad?

Is tramadol just as bad as other opiates?  Is it a opiate like the rest or is it an anelgesic?  My doctor gave me a prescription but I have not taken them yet.

      Tramadol is very habit forming, I agree with the other posts you will be better off not to take them.  Talk to your Doc. about something that ain't so habit forming.

Tramadol is a opiate but has a weaker effect on the receptors than morphine and other opiates. It is closely linked to codeine. It has the potential for addiction because it affects neurotransmitters like seratonin and norepinepherine like other opiates. Tramadol usually has Tylenol or Ibuprofen in it an a adjunct pain reliever.

What else have you tried for back pain? Tylenol and Ibuprofen are unfortunately overlooked. I would always try them first. They can be taken together safely. Ibuprofen is not recommended for long term use for people with kidney or stomach problems. Tylenol should never exceed 3000mg a day and be avoided by people with severe liver problems. I would express your concerns with your doctor. If you are in doubt, like it sounds you are, don't take them. Hope you get pain relief.

yes it is an opiate and you can get addicted just like the others hope this helps
