Know your triggers

since my relapse 2 weeks ago, i have made a few little changes cause using all that coke scared the hell out of me and i refuse to go back. although i have been hit with some minor cravings since, they have not been that intense and i think i know why. first of all i have not had one single drink, as drinking is my number 1 trigger to use and it sets cravings off. i have purposely not drove by my ex dealer's house which is on way home cause for some reason to this day, when i drive by i look to see if he's home, old habbit i guess.  i also find stress a big trigger so ive taken care of a couple things right away before letting them build up, cause if i put them off, i get all worked up and want to use. breathing can be a trigger too, but kinda hard to avoid that one, lol. i really suggest to anyone with addiction, make a list of your biggest triggers and the ones that can be avoided and i think you can limit those intense cravings. we need all the help we can get and although it's not easy being an addict, there are things we can do to improve our success. i wanted to get wasted last night, sad but true. i choose not to drink and although i feel out of place now for that, it's the right choice for me. no headache, no sickness, no guilt this morning. not much fun last night, but i feel good this morning and going for my 3rd coffee. triggers play a large role in this disease so know yours and your chances of success will improve. like toxictome says "it works if you work it, so keep working it:) hope you guys are having a great sober weekend:)

Triggers are like chiggers...down south known as bed bugs...LOL...they get under ur skin and make you itch and itch til u give in and scratch the itch.....and then u r off on either a guilt trip or off in abuse wonderland and hopefully will return back to earth sooner than later....eliminationg triggers is a must...life can be a trigger tho and that is why aftercare is so omportant..day ny day...sometimes that is just the best we can do..."I will make it thru today"

Good post. I was proud of you last night. What you did was important. You wanted to have a  good time with friends but you knew that drinking more than likely would lead you to other things. You made the right choice for yourself at this time. You should be proud of yourself!!!

The drinking is the one that leads us down the garden path. All the rest may cause some stress, but they are not mind altering.I also am addicted to coke, pills and alcohol, and not every, but in a lot of cases, its the drinking thats sets me off,and there i go out to get that evil-cocaine.I remember you talking about the booze before brother. We need to stay away from that,or we will be backj on the coke. All the best john

Good post Gizzy... I am glad you avoided the triggers last night....and I bet you do feel really good this morning. I totally understand why you would look to see if your ex dealer was home or not.....and I am glad you changed that!

Please though....don't quit breathing... LOL!
You are doing great!
