I'm glad you found this forum to help you through the withdrawals. Like Gizzy said above, check out the health pages. The health pages can be found in the upper right hand side of the screen. You will find the Thomas Recipe or the Amino Acid Protocol. I used the Amino Acid Protocol and it really seemed to help. It lists a bunch of vitamins and supplements that will help the brain and body get back on track a bit faster.
I'm not sure if you are able to quit yet but exercise makes a huge difference. If possible even go for some slow and steady walks. The main thing is to not lay around waiting for the withdrawals to pass. It makes our minds wander too much and we end up constantly thinking about how one little pill could make us feel better. The withdrawals aren't only physical but mainly a mental battle. You have to fight through both with everything you've got.
Also be sure to eat healthy and push the good fluids such as juice, water, or gatorade. If you live alone and don't have anyone to help out try and get 5 days of meals made up so you don't have to mess with it while feeling crummy. You may not feel like eating much but you have to try. If you have to just eat more small light meals instead of eating three meals a day.
Pick up some good movies, some books, or any other type of activity you think you'll enjoy. I hadn't done a puzzle since I was probably 8 years old but picked up a couple jigsaw puzzles. They really helped to take my mind off of how I was feeling and the time seemed to fly by.
There's a blood pressure med called Clonodine that is usually prescribed for withdrawals. When withdrawing it causes a spike in blood pressure and the Clonodine will help that. It also helps with the hot/cold flashes, sleep (somewhat), and the overall antsy feeling. Just talk to your doctor about it and be sure to follow exactly how it's prescribed. It can be a dangerous med if you already have low blood pressure or if you take more than you should. Your doctor should fill you in on all of this. Also be sure to pick up some immodium. It's an over the counter med used for stomach and bathroom issues. The immodium saved my life!!
Come on here and post your progress. You'll be amazed on how many people will walk you through this and give you the extra motivation you'll need. Post a hundred times a day if need be. Just stick to this thread that way others that come along to help can read your story.
Most importantly stay mentally strong throughout this. Tell yourself every second of everyday that failure is not an option. So many of us became addicted due to an injury. I stopped taking them myself after my first back surgery before I even through I had a problem with them. but ended up back on them and had one heck of a time stopping them for good. It's a fight for your life whether you realize it or not. The pills can sneak back up on us in a flash.
Just hang in there. You'll get through the withdrawals. It won't be easy but you'll be just fine.
Best of luck!
Brian
Welcome to the forum. Did you taper these meds down or just going cold turkey? If you look in the top right of this page you will see health pages. In there is the thomas recipe which might help your withdrawls. If your having trouble sleeping try some melatonin which can be picked up otc at most pharmacy's. You may need immodium too. Is this your first time going through w/d's? Generally they will last 3-5 days, depending on how much and how long we used, not everyone is the same. Good luck and glad your getting off these meds now.
So your dr is putting you on just the regular tylenol now?
