Last step of Oxycontin tapper

I have been on 80 mg of Oxycontin for a year.  The need for it has ceased.  I have tapered to 10 mg.  How much more should I taper to get to 0 mg?  I have looked for a taper schedule but can't find one.  Help.  Thanks

Wow, I had no idea I would receive responses like these!  I would love to live in the feeling of success but I still have miles to go.

I am torn between jumping and taking any last withdrawal pain or continue to detox some more, maybe to 5 mg.  At this point I'm short on time but thank you, thank you all.  I will keep my new friends informed and add a little to what I have learned about detoxing.

Congrats on such a good job tapering. Sounds like you knew exactly what to do.

I was prescribed oxy in the past and tapered. Once I got down to 10mg my doctor then prescribed 5mg percocet so I could taper even lower. I ended tapering down to 1/2 of a 5mg since you can break the percocet. Since oxycontin is extended release you can't break them or at least shouldn't.

I think what I would try do is to go ahead and make the jump. You may feel just fine. If you experience withdrawals and feel they are too much to handle you could then talk to your doctor about going to an instant release such as percocet or vicodin. Vicodin are the weaker of the two so that may be the best approach. I think you'll be okay jumping off now though. If not, just talk to your doctor and see what he thinks.

wow congratulation on the taper...i had to jump off of 120+ oxy a day. im so proud of you!!! i think oxy is one of the hardest substances to get off of!! im 90 clean but have a script for oxcododne 7.5 mgs with tylonol...have you thought of just jump? if you had about 3-5 days off work or whatever you'll come out smelling like a clean rose. i mean it!! i don't think the withdraws would he that hard. how are you feeling physically now? do you take 5 twice a day? or a ten once a day? im not judging...just asking questions lol. if ya don't want to answer that's ok.

im so jealous. i wish i had the willpower to tapered. and i don't think you will have a bad detox. how long were you on them? i battled three years. the last six months i was out of control. if i didn't buy on streets i would get so sick. it was the worst drug to stop. way to go on your taper!!! hugs and you get the gold star of the day:) awesome job!!

That's awesome! Good work. That's huge to taper from 80 to 10!! Most people can't do it myself included.
They don't make a 5 oxy do they? I know perc they do but you could jump anytime. You'll have some wd but I would think your body is ready for it

Hi tehere and congrats on choosing to quit now. MH policy prohibits that we give out taper schedules. I think you're on the right track though. Everybody is different when coming off of pills. The withdrawl symptoms and length are different for everyone also. You're currently on 10 mg.,is that correct? If so,you could consider jumping at this point. How long have you been at 10 mg.? Stay strong in your resolve to quit!!

My regular Dr. is a GP not a Rheumatologist  and he said to get off this stuff and I agreed.  He gave me 3 RX and said to find a way that would work for me and come back in 3 months clean or we would find another way.  I did a lot of research.  So far the things I learned have worked except the last piece, when can you go to 0 intake w/o too much discomfort.

that is excellent. congrats on your taper. most people cant stick to a taper, it requires alot of discipline. did you do the taper on your own? or with help from a doctor?

It took about 6 weeks to go from 80 mg to 20 mg.  So far I have had mild effects from the tapering and don't want to mess up now.
