going from morphine onto suboxone

Hi Folks...new here....I see alot of post re the suboxone, subutex....I have a question....I'm going to try and come off th morphine mscontin 200mg/day....my doc says I have to be 2 days (48  hours) since my last dose before I start the Suboxone...I live in Canada and subutex is not approved...I have taken the morphine everyday for hte last 5 years.....are there any alternate drugs that can be taken to help with withdrawal for those 2 days....I live alone and I've lived with lots of fear for the whole time I've been on the morphine....really...I got mixed up with prescription drugs for pain then I became dependent/addicted...I just have to get off it as it is co ntrolling my life...I want to move and I won't be able to find a new doc to prescribe.....so the suboxone does it work?  I know the naloxone is added and that I don't knwo how it lets the subutex part even attach...my doc  is new to prescribing this, has 6 patients on it, I will be number 7....I dont' have alot of confidence in him as he never got it why I didn't feel right on the morhpine....like gee I'm in a mental haze and sinking deeper.....sorry for the sarcasim....I'm fed up....would the subutex itself be okay for the first few days, instead of the suboxone....I've never used street drugs but would something other than an opiate not interfere with suboxone when that is started....I'm trying to figure every angle.....any advise would be helpful
thanks

The Suboxone does work! I did the program, used both Subutex and Suboxone, either one was fine and did the job. It got me off pills long enough to get my mind in a sober place and I was slowly weaned off. There is a lot of work to do. AA or NA meetings everyday, every single day, a sponsor, working a 12 step program, finding out what the hole was you were trying to fill with drugs, many things have to be done in conjunction with Suboxone. It helps with w/d's but it's not a cure. Be sure to get involved in AA or NA and seeing a therapist or counselor  is a must.
Follow your docs orders as to how long to take it, every case is different. It took me about  8 or 9 months, I did everything I was told and remain clean to this day almost 4 years later.
Good Luck.

thanks to those who posted....it is scary taking this first step, but like anything the fear is more before the decision is made....I'm not too far in but I want it so much I can do this....I only took half my dose this morning , and not my afternoon dose so that 150 mg short so far....I can feel it in my muscles a bit and a deep gut reaction.....think I may get the runs...nose is dripping a bit.........

I'm a Christian and don't know if any here are....but you know when you follow a path like that and want to be as close as you can to christ you take your stripes with him and that is what gave me the confidence I could do this, and also reading other's posts of their taking the step to be free...

I'm coming out of a 5 year morphine haze....though I rarely abused it, it was my friend and I hid behind it....it started out for pain....high dose cause I got addicted to Dilaudid after surgery...but I don't think I am in pain anylonger....My dr. said I've been on it so long it probabl isnt doing anything for pain, but just satisfying the addiction part....

So tomorrow may be a little rough but so what....right guys....I have to do this...I hav a new grandson I will be watching in Sept a chance to get back to my family...I can'at be dozing on the morphine.....Advise taken on not staying on the suboxone too long.....

I do have clonodine the Blood Prssure med...but I find it realy knocks me out and I feel really sick the next day so its not worth it.....I have some flurazapam for sleep...I've tapered my use of that way down but I will use more if needed.....What is the thomas recipe?

Thanks to all and good luck

if you don't have confidence in him and he got you into this mess, chances are he won't help you with this sub and could make things worse. Do you want off of all narcotics?

clonidine is what i would suggest for the first 48 hours too.  It helped me a great deal.  And it is a blood pressure medication that should be avail in canada.  Only take it as prescribed as it can decrease your blood pressure, but it helped me w/ anxiety, RLS, palpitations and sweats.  Just because your doctor is new to prescribing this, don't doubt him.  I don't have experience with sub but many people were detoxed from opiates successfully with it.  It has it's side effects so take it for as short a time as possible.  You don't want to be in the same boat 6 months from now trying to get off of it as well.  Ask for the clonidine.  And a short acting benzo may help with the anxiety as well.  The thomas recipe is for quitting all together but don't see why it wouldn't help you for those first few days.  Good luck
