I have been on methadone for 7 years now. I am sick of it! I seen on tv once that you can stay at the hospital and be put to sleep while your in withdraws....what is this called

Many clinics are definitely in it for the money. Actually, most of them seem to have the same shortcomings. Are you using methadone for pain management or strictly for addiction? I found pain management doctors often have a plan for detox also. The doctor I went to had clinic patients that came to him for help tapering and prescribes subs for the chronic relapse people. You may find a local doctor like that near you. It's worth looking. It was cheaper than a clinic too. It's worth a shot. You are on too high a dose to cold turkey, I've tried it at 150mg myself, not a pretty picture. I wouldn't go the rapid detox, but that's my opinion. I support any effort to get away from methadone. Be careful at the clinic, if you push too hard, they can throw you out. For $7800, I know you can get help with doing this right. For that much you could fly to the Palm Beach Outpatient Detox Clinic and stay in a beach hotel. There are surely other detox facilities in your area. I grew up in the south, so I know the stigma around addiction is intense, but somebody with integrity has to be around there somewhere. Check it out and let us know what happens.

hi i also was on methadone, my highest was 80mgs i was on it for 7 months. I decreased 5mgs a week, my wds were mild,when i got to 4mgs ran a week and quit, thats when the wds kicked in full force, i relapse for a while on pain meds but now im ok, methadone takes time to leave your system, its no joke bad stuff, im 55 days free im feeling good now, just ween off the stuff you will be fine, you wont die, im 60 years old with high blood pressure, just go for it take all the vitimans that you will need good luck John

The clinics are there to make money. Of course they want you to stay on it. You need to be persistent and tell them that you want to continue tapering. It is ok to come down 5 mgs a week until you get to 30 mgs then you need to slow down.
No you can't go cold turkey from that much it is dangerous.
Do you go everyday or get take homes?
They can't make you stay on it. Talk to your counselor and doctor and tell them you want off.

I have tapered down some. I was on 160 mg and now on 98 mg but the clinic I am in doesn't want me to go down they just want me to go up it seems because they will lose money if I dose out! I have tried to go cold turkey and it about killed me! I just seen that on tv about beening put asleep and thought that might be a good idea. I would Hate to spend 7,800.00 on it and it not work! It's called rapid detox or the Wiessman Method. They sedate you and flush a solution through your blood to clean it of drugs. It can be dangerous and I have seen a high relapse ratio. I know of one person who is successful so far after rapid detox. they got home f eelinh great. the next day the anxiety and depression hit hard. He had lots of support when he got out. I feel the same about rehab, it's a good first step, but you need to have more than that. What dose of methadone are you taking now? Have you tapered down? No matter what, it takes time and work to get off methadone and stay off it. What have you tried so far? Give more info and we'll help as much as we can. Keep us posted.

Welcome. I have heard and seen of this too. I believe what it does is get you through the physical stuff you suffer in the beginning and that is it. I heard it costs thousands, and is not worth it.
There is no get out of methodone free card. Unfortunately we have to suffer with the whole process, its the mental that is the worst.

Do  you have anyone to reach out to? A doctor, a facility?
