I am on 140 mgs of Methadone have been for years and cant get any programs to take my insurance but it looks like the suboxene can be paid for by insurance. What is the difference and what would I have to do. Methadone is taking all my money and freedom. I have been on it for years, I am an old herion addict and need some relief. I work every day and am productive but have no money. Need some input.  Please help

I was on 140mgs of methadone for a few years along with other various opiates at times. Ive been through methadone withdrawals enough to know that they hard very hard to deal with, but the real hard part is staying clean once you are sober. This last time I quit methadone I tapered down over about 7months to 30mgs then over to suboxone. I started at 8mgs which was enough to take away all withdrawals and cravings for the most part. I was on sub for 18wks, the last month of which I was under 1mg, last two wks was down to about .25mgs before I quit. The w/d's were fairly bad but looking back not nearly as bad as I had experienced in the past when coming off high dosages of methadone. Its a hard decision to make but if you do choose to go the sub route I would suggest doing a short term plan rather than dragging it out for months. Whatever way you choose there is going to be some w/d's you'll have to deal with, but its so worth it in the end. If you want or need any added info please feel free to hit me up and I can tell you more about my experience. Hope all goes well, good luck.

I wish I could offer something. I too was on Methadone some years back and was on it for 3 years and up to 180mg per day, and yes it is expensive and it is hell to get off of-  I dont want to be the voice of doom but I just want to tell it like it is so you have no surprises. Methadone was about 10 times harder to quit than ANYTHING I can think of.
I have no experience on Suboxene , but a Dr can be your best bet and if the insurance will cover it then head on over there asap!
I hope you get the answers you are looking for..
Good luck and God bless

suboxone is usually kinda expensive...if ur insurance covers the medicine it would help then hopefully the sub doctor will take the insurance as many will not...some do tho so shop around..u would have to taper down to 30 mgs of methadone or less to start sub as due to its ceiling effect t will not cover the amount of methadone u r on..so u have a taper proces to go thru first..may be best to talk to ur clinic doctor or to a sub doctor altho it is a charge to talk to a sub doctor..making a plan and sticking to it can be the best thing to do
