Your doctor is an idiot. You are suffering from minor withdrawls...Methadone half life is much longer than oxy. Hence withdrawls last much longer.
I had this problem when I got under 4mgs of methadone & it only got worse once I was completly off of it, it lasted for about 6 weeks then got better. Penelope
I also was on methadone and have been of it for 2 yrs..it sounds to me like you are having some w/ds..as far as methadone being easier to come off then oxys..I think your dr. has no clue..of course it depends how many mg of oxy your on..anyway..methaodone w/d is one of the toughest w/ds out there..But even so it can be done..there really is no way to avoid some w/ds and that includes cold sweats..I have in my journal an article written by a dr. about methadone /withdrawal. he was also an addict for 18 yrs. There is alot of info in there and some things you can do to help yourself through. Please feel free to send me a pm if you have any questions..you can do this ..A good mindset is essential !! take care..Lisa
I am completely off the duragesic patches, but have been taking about 15 mg of methadone a day cut the 10mg in half three times a day but sometimes when pain is worse I take a whole one. My doc told me that would be easier to come off the methadone rather than oxy but have not discussed in length with her. She pretty much just asks me what I can handle because I do still have pain.
If you have been on it for over a year then it's most likely your body adjusting to the lower dose.Tapering off methodone is tricky. Are you doing it on your own or is your doctor helping you? What was your normal dose and how long have you been tapering? How many milligrams are you taking right now?
