I gss it depends on which narcotic u choose to stay on. Sub is a bear to withdraw from and very expensive for most. Methadone is also difficult/half life of both is similar and a long WD time for either drug.. Sub is not an efficient pain med by most standards, methadone is...one ro but I am not sure why u r on methadone. If u r going to a clinic, then it is expensive. If u see a doctor and he writes u a scrip for pain, it is dirt cheap. Since u said liquid, I wld think u go to a clinic.
Thing is, both are strong narcotics but suboxone is stronger than methadone. 2 totally different narcotics, but by most standards, sub beats methadone hands down, I gss my question is, What is your goal? Swithcing from methadone to a sticky, powerhouse of a narcotic is not really moving forward for most folks....switching from narcotic to narcotic is not always moving forward either. Sometimes folks end up digging a deep hole trying to avoid WDs and end up on these drugs that are actually several times stronger than what many were on in the 1st place.
Be safe and research the options...sub can be expensive as well if using for addiction and it is not approved in the US for pain, methadone is so insurance covers it. 2mg of sub is equal to 100mg of hydro or so...i wld have to refer to a chart in the health pages where each drug is compared by strength
WDs are tough from either drug and again, we r all different. A sub taper has to be slow as does a done taper. If u r good at tapering (most addicts suk at tapering) then why not just taper off the methadone? Either way, if u want to be clean, u will have to WD from one or the other. If u find a good sub doctor who will help u taper..that wld be great..cos most of em r in it for the cash as a rule. Or if u have the will power to taper on ur own, it doesnt really matter i gss....
And then again, some folks need something for life to help keep them off the streets, alive, and outta jail. I dont know ur prior habit, but since u r on done for addiction vs pain, and now thinking about sub, I wld gss it was heroin or a large oxy habit...200mg plus a day or so.
I see you want to "move on"? Sometimes we have to look back for a second and see where we Were and where we Are now...and try and figure out just where we r planning to move on to exactly/and assure we r not on a ferris wheel that keeps going around and around but never really getting anywhere.......
What was your habit before u got on done? Just always be sure u r moving forward...and not backward...dont let those spider webs creep around and weave webs through your brain. Sit down with yourself and have an honest talk....you to you...we need that sometimes
good luck to u and keep moving forward
I was an MMT patient for 6 years, and I had enough. I was ready to come off pharmacological treatment, but the methadone tapers were killer. I had a real hell of a time coming off, so once I got down to 30mls, I transitioned to Suboxone for the next year and a half. I felt so much better on the sub, and lost the 100lbs I put on while in MMT.
The time came where I tapered down to 3mgs of Sub, and then finally made the jump. The wd's for me were no where near as bad as the methadone withdrawals, they just seemed to be irritating as all hell, and lasted for about 30 days before I started feeling back to normal.
Its all personal preference, and up to the individual. I have no regrets switching to sub, and today have over two years of clean time. No looking back! Good luck to you!

Hi tigera, I agree with Glowngirl, why are you wanting to make the switch? Regardless of what you choose you are going to have to withdraw from one or the other. I suggest doing a lot of research on Suboxone, some people really like it and others, not so much. I am currently tapering off methadone with absolutely no problems at all. My methadone doctor wants me to go on Suboxone but I can't see the point, I am now at 9mgs of methadone and feeling just fine. I don't want to switch over to something else and start the tapering all over again. Ultimately it is your choice, but I can't stress enough how important it is to do your homework. Whatever you choose I wish you the best!
I'm on methadone and it works for me. Why do you want to change meds? You should ask your doctor. At my clinic suboxone is a lot more expensive. If the methadone is working I would keep tapering down frrom methadone and not switch just to start the tapering all over again. Deff. Talk to your doctor.
Everyone is different I'm on suboxone and love it. Y do u want to come off meth?
