Methodone vs Suboxen

I am currently taking methodone and have been for 15 months I have been off of painkillers (oxy's)since I started taking methodone bc it does no good to take any when you dont feel it since the methodone blocks bc I  tried at first just out of habit. I was on pain pills for 4 yrs started with an ear ache and prescription for lortabs then my husband decided to get back on pain meds for a surgery he had (b4 he met me) that went wrong, he had been off for a few years b4 I met him. After that it was just a gradual increase to oxy's he shared with me and had to get extra to keep me high too. I would have to go through withdraws at the end of the month when he ran low sometimes he would too. For 4 years thats all we lived for was for the Dr's appt. that time of the month. Then he lost his Dr and we started buying Oxy's from his dad at $10 -20 a pill we were always broke and we would feel like hell when we ran out. That is something I never wnat to go through again!
So finally we got tired of being sick and started  methadone at first I thought it was awesome actually at first I was high from it. I would wake up with my face in the keyboard at the computer, my husband would fall asleep driving. I started school for Medical Assistant and was proud of myself did excellent in school  except for falling asleep in class a few times I would wake up to someone poking at me and everyone would be staring at me ! lol Anyway I graduated but the problem is I have gained so much weight I was 125 and very confident and cute Now I weigh 168 last time I weighed. My self esteem is lower than ever I graduated 5 months ago and still dont have a job. I think alot has to do with bc Im not as confident as I used to be.
I really want to get off methodone but Im scared since my husband is still on methodone pain pills he gets from the Dr  and he also goes to the clinic. Of course they dont know. So there will be plenty around tempting if I quit.Has anyone taking suboxen I have read it helps and its better then methodone but I also hear its expensive. I feel like I would rather be back on oxy then the be at the weight I am! Yes that stupid I know but methodone is just another drug a  replacement drug. So whats the difference I wont feel truely "clean" until Im off of methodone. So anyone know anything about suboxone? Im hoping it will help.

Be very careful with Suboxone I was on It for 8 months at 16mg. Previously I was taking 120 Vicodin a month for 2 years for a herniated disk in my neck, Which finally healed thank God! My idiot doctor kept me on It for 8 months until I switched doctors. My new doctor tapered It off too quick and I have been In hideous withdrawal since January 19. I still cant sleep have massive cramping in my legs and I am freezing my butt off. Suboxone is good if you need to go off  heavy or illegal drugs and keep your job. But don't stay on for more than 3 weeks then taper off very very slow. Withdrawal from Suboxone Is worse than any other opiate. If you have to use It please go to a good doctor  and get off as quick as you can. I would not wish this on anyone. I have gone cold turkey  on Vicodin and other heavier stuff and that was a walk In the park compared to this. I was awake for almost 11 days. It's Feb. 6 and I still feel crappy  but It getting better every day. But very slowly. Suboxone can be a blessing If used right but It Is an absolute nightmare If you stay on It too long. Good luck to you and your husband. I think you need  to do It together. It is too hard to do when someone has drugs on hand when you are trying to quit. You can do It!

I was only on sub for three months at a vary low dose..Im not sure what she is talking about when saying if you go higher you will start w/d..My understanding was that with the ceiling effect anything over 8 mg was a waste and made w/d even harder if you c/t.I have never been on meth so i dont know what w/d from that is like but i can say that w/d from sub was a night mare I went c/t off of 2mgs and should have tapered more...because sub has a long half life the w/ds took two weeks. I didint gain any weght on the sub or maybe i was not on it long enough...sub made me sleepy all the time, some times i would get a high off of it but for the most part i just felt like i was in a fog...I hope this helps if you want to talk more you can pm me.

thanks for the info I just now saw your answer to my question. I am on 90 mg now but I have recently talked to the clinic about tapering down til I get off bc I just made up my mind I am tired of this weight and am ready to quit. So do you know if the suboxone users have the same problem with weight gain? Im going to drop 5 mg a week thats all. I really want to do more bc Im ready to be off it quicker but they discourage it at the clinic. What do you mean by if you go higher you will go through wd? i have been clean also since on methadone well I tried oxy and it did nothing not even a little buzz so its pointless. i used to snort the 80 mg oxycotin and the oxycodone's too the wd was a ***** on that I hear its worse on methadone. Do you know if thats true even if you taper slowley til your off? Do you also get the downer feeling from suboxone like methadone? or do you feel nothing? what was your energy like on it? thanks for the help

what dose are you at on methadone at the clinic?...yeah beinga round the pills when you are trying to stay clean or trying to truly quit is basically making it impossible and a compromise or big decision will have to be made by u or your husband, cuz its no good and impossible for both of you, its an endles cycle, vicious, if you can lower your daily methadone dose to 20-30mgs, 30 being the highest, then you could transfer over to suboxone, and you would have to wait around 48hrs, from the last dose of methadone to take your first suboxone dose, but it is def. easier and little less severe with wd's than methadone..the suboxone(which is primarily buprenorphine) is a potent long lasting mixed opioid, it has a ceiling effect(where if you go any higher than that dose it will have opposite effects and put you into severe wd's) at 32mgs per day, i was on 32mgs a day for over a 8 mths, it got me off of a huge daily dose of very pure heroin or 3-4 80mg oxycontin's snorted up my nose needed to keep me out of wd's..one important thing from being on suboxone is that the best dose for anyone trying to get the most out of it is 4mg-24mgs any higher is absolutely pointless, i stayed successfully clena from all opiates for 8 mths when on suboxone, i ended up in an accident and started the endless cycle of opiate addiction aftr that and ended up at a methadone clinic it has now been 10mths and ive been clean, but suboxone is def. easier to wd from, taper down from, and last longer-generally around 2days, but you if you take a daily dose you will feel absolutely fine, with no worry of needing another dose or something else to cover you, best of luck to you-christos
