I just started on Suboxone today for oxy detox. I have been in a treatment center before and did the C/T route. The problem with that method although at the time and maybe a short time after we do not ever want the meds again, the receptors in our brains are still not functioning normal, we will compare it to an empty gas tank in our cars and we start to get HUGE cravings. This is where most of us fail because the majority of us no matter how strong we are, submit eventually and succumb to this madness. This is where suboxone helps a great deal. It suppresses your cravings for the drug as well as the physical pain of withdrawal. Although the physical withdrawals may take a few days of adjusting the meds to completely resolve that part of withdrawal.
I think some people have reservations about the use of suboxone, the most important consideration is what is best for the person. IMO suboxone is the lesser of 2 evils and it will prevent me from craving the stronger narcotic. Another positive aspect with suboxone versus methadone (speaking only for myself) is that I know the suboxone will not give me any high as the methadone would and if you take more sboxone it will not make you get high because of the antagonist in it and the ceiling effect.
I am not sure how much I could help, I will keep you and everyone else in my thoughts. In my first post here today, I mentioned about what I have went through last PM (total hell) and even today for the most part.I have not slept in 2 days exept this afternoon for 2 very brief naps. Has anyone experienced bad leg cramps with suboxone? I have had that, nausea and headache, although for the most part it is improving now.
Ok, thanks Lizzie....he is still in treatment & hanging in there 15 days today....
from what i understand about suboxene...it should NOT be used as a substitute for opiates...but more for the "transition" to being clean and sober. the shorter time it is used...the better. it is something that needs to be tapered off from too.
Any side effects? He has a full time factory job, so dizziness wouldn't be too good. But if this helps like you say, GOD BLESS YOU,

That is the hard part. The craving do go away with time. This is, I think the hardest part. I was always scared of the detox and never made it this far to know what the cravings would be like. They really put a toll on your mind and body. He has got to fight this off without getting on another drug. Methadone is very very hard to quit. He has done good to get this far.
Hi Mom....
Certainly there are many ppl her who have quit methadone. He is in treatment, that is a good thing. the longer the better. PLease, if nothing else, make certain that he follows through with aftercare..that is essential. If he returns to his old life, and his old friends, he is doomed. He needs to change everything about his life and he will need help with that. It sounds like he is going through the mental part of this disease right now, and he is struggling. I understand. He needs help staying clean. Please check that out with the facility before he leaves. Good Luck.
Your right about quitting, after that that first part(detox) I thought we were half way there...WRONG! He's talked to sooo many people that tell him with the methodone you lose the cravings & urges, he says thats all he can think about is that little pill. He wants to quit so bad that I fear if he fails this time.......I just don't know.
No, he does not have access to a computer in the center. thanks guys.
What exactly is he struggling with. Mood? Anxiety? Energy? What kind of treatment program? Do they have follow up?
suboxone. Stay away from the methadone. Suboxone would be the way to go. Is he 14 days clean now. If so then why give him anything? Not sure exactly why you would put him on methadone now if he is 14 days clean. Hang around someone might be able to answer this for both of us.
Can he get on to this forum? Yes there are many people who have quit without methadone. Quitting is the easy part. Staying clean takes determination and a support system.
