My last post must have said something wrong, again, Please help with taking Suboxone for opiate detox

Well, hello again, I am going to assume I said something I was not suppose to in my last post and I sincerely apologize, I was hoping to get some feedback from some people that have detoxed off methadone with suboxone and Clonodine. I already have to two meds, I was just hoping I could get an idea from some former detox folks would would be a good 1 month or 2 month detox dosage and tapering. I know it can very from patient to patient but just a little about me, Im only doing 40mg/day and have been doing so for about 6 months and just want to stop. I started to stop cold turkey. i got flu like symptoms and thought it would only take a couple days until I looked up methadone withdrawal and determine it was going to be tougher than I thought. I just dont have the money to pay the doctor to look at me and tell me what to take. I weigh 224 if that makes a difference. Can someone please give me an idea of what worked for them, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I think I remember Wait2long say that you must be down to 30mg or lower on the methadone to go on the suboxone, and yes you must be in detox at least 72 hours.
Wait2long is usually lurking in the night or early morning. She really is the sweetest person and so helpful.  Hang in there.  (I am calling her telapathecly) LOL

Thanks so much for your reply, i actually messaged both of them already:) They were given high praise. Thanks for the info on going c/t for 72 hours first, I think it is becuase it can be in the system up to 36 but hear it is extremely important to go cold turkey first. Also, thanks for the sub dosage ideas and clinic ideas, that does sound a little more reasonable.Good luck to your son. Good supplementation will help a lot too along with a lot of water.

Not to be nosy, but what did you take before to be put on methadone?  Have you been addicted or tried detox before?

The people to talk to here are Wait2Long and FLaddict. Another web site that can help you with Methadone to Sub transition is naabt.com. My son is doing this. He slowly tapered down to 20 mgs of Mdone from a high of 95mgs. He had to go CT for 72 hours and be in WD before the sub induction could begin. First day they gave him a split dose- 4 and 4 mgs. Second day they gave him 8 in the am and a 8 take home. Today they gave him 8 in the am and 2/8s to take home. They will take you up to 32, but from everything I have read here stabilizing at the lowest dose where you feel " normal" is a good idea- with the goal of tapering  sllllooooowwwwwly off the sub as  soon as possible. This concept seems to be debatable- but if you read the posts here- and the Health Pages on the lower right and then read the info at that other web site- you will see the variety of opinion. My son is trying to take the middle ground. He wants to stay low, stabilize and taper slowly- BUT he will go up to a higher sub dose  and stay on a little longer if necessary to avoid cravings and relapse. That may have to happen as the  complete WD from methadone can take up to 6 weeks. Today I went out and got him some herbal supplements to help him with WD symptoms. I am very new to this as well- but we are hoping that this will be a positive road. I "get" your concern about the $$. His clinic charges $275 a month plus the script- and insurance doesn't cover it. He has to pay extra and make an appt to see the actual DR. We are looking for an alternative private DR and it pays to shop around because today I found one who charges $175 for the first 30 min visit and then $75 for monthly checkups.Trick is to wait for an opening. As far as real concern and caring advice- you can't beat the folks here. Good luck and bless you.

I have never taken methadone nor suboxone but have read lots of stories about both...i didCT off of lortab 2 months ago...you will have to withdraw from the suboxone as well eventually though and I do know sometimes it takes a while to get the dose right on the sub so that they feel good...i have seen some who taper down on the methadone and quit...your clinic should help you...or the other route is the suboxone,,,but you will have to taper off of that as well...hopefully someone with experience will post soon

Thanks for the reply, maybe I should ask this then because there are a lot of crooks out there. I know this can vary somewhat but with a short term situation as mine, how many times shouuld I really need to see the doc. You cant trust them all, they do want your money. The lady I talked to said the consulation is $300 and then $150 every visit after that, just to talk to the doctor, I don't think there is a point to that, Doctors cant go inside you and see what is the best dosage because they arent feeling the same. I agree you are absolutely right. Everyone is different and dosage can very but besides asking a few questions and looking at me, they are taking a guess as well and since I have some knowledge on  tapering off (had to do it once with xanax), I think I can figure out a good dosage for me, Im just trying to get a few different people's dosages they were described to get an idea of what to expect to spend and how long to expect to be detoxing.

unfortunately rob i don't think anyone on here is a doctor and if they are they are not going to tell you how much to take without examining you. you really do need to see a doctor to get the correct dosage amount and how to taper. i've never taken suboxone and i know there are people on here who have but they can't tell you how much to take and how often. just bite the bullet and go see a doctor and let him tell you how to take it. good luck to you.
