NEXT STEP...

I wanted to let you know that my cravings are finally manageable ❕ I have really struggled to get them down to a dull roar! Ya'll were right when you said GETTING CLEAN is the easy part.... STAYING CLEAN however is MUCH harder. I am now and have been dealing with the mental aspect of my disease... It's NOT easy for the girl, who at the first sign of any emotion simply popped a pill. I realize now THEIR WAS NOTHING SIMPLE about that.... The grief, loss, anger, etc DIDN'T go away... The pills did NOT take it away... It masked it, dulled it, numbed it, but IT'S ALL STILL HERE FOR ME TO DEAL WITH... For anyone thinking that pills are helping you... THEY AREN'T... The same problems you are trying to ignore by self medicating will STILL BE THERE when the pills are gone. The longer you ignore them the harder it gets to manage them. A pill free life is WORTH the battle! I was slowly killing myself with the narcotics and didn't even realize it... I have thrown everything into getting and STAYING clean... Its the first thing I think about in the mornings now....A PILL FREE LIFE! You guys are really amazing..YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! Always there NO MATTER WHAT and you have truly helped me through the toughest of times! I found meetings. They are an hour each way but so very worth it. 90 meetings in 90 days isn't something I could realistically do with the 2 hour drive time. How one person gets and stays clean may not work for the next. I realize that:-) . My question to you guys is WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING NOW❔❓ I am a mere 44 days into this fight, my guard is ALWAYS up... I'm just wondering what the next step in my recovery plan should be?? Any ideas?? ALSO, are their any vitamins that help with energy?? My get up and go has got up and went!! I'm still sluggish...

Hey there sweet girl!!!!!  You are doing simply amazing, I'm so proud of you!!! Continuing doing what your doing with your meetings and my suggestion is go to therapy to deal with the root of all your problems.  Find news ways to deal with your emotions so you can rewire your brain to think of something healthy  rather than turning to a pill.  When the thought of a pill pops into my head usually due to pain but also because of emotions i just remind myself that it is so not worth it and a pill is not going to solve anything and just make my life that much worse.  And of course i reward myself and turn to chocolate:-)  As for the energy, i still feel sluggish at times but i swear by taking vitamin B-12 and eating healthy and drinking lots of water helps a ton.

I want to thank you for all the help you offer around here, you are such a great supporter!!!!!

WOW! I LOVE the idea of a food journal!! I never considered it. I also didn't realize that oatmeal had melatonin!! I hate oatmeal but my kiddos love it! Would be a great before bed snack for them. I'm going to try the honey and 4 small meals throughout the day. I always skip breakfast and I know I'm going to have to cut that out! I am changing my entire life and way of doing things so these kinds of things are great to know. Thank you so much Barb.

BUTTERFLY1503: Thank you. That was very kind of you to say. It was sweet and appreciated!

Getting your vitamins and minerals in food as much as you can helps. Because vitamins absorb better through food than pills.  Eating small meals every four hours instead of three big meals a day helps too. For instance, the body can only digest so much protein at once. So if your eating your recommended daily allowance of protein in one meal, your really not getting it all, as the body will put as waste the protein it can't absorb.
Therefore, eating small amounts every four hours works better.

Eating breakfast is very important for physical and mental energy. But research what your eating when. For instance, oatmeal. Did you know oats are full of melatonin? Something better suited to a snack at night!

Take a few days and keep a food journal. Write down how you felt energy wise an hour after eating and again a few hours after eating.

Look up each food on the Internet. Find out which foods provide a smooth flow of energy as opposed to ones that provide a surge then a crash.

A spoonful of honey is a good way to give yourself a healthy energy boost.
It sounds silly but there is a reason it takes two years of study at least to become a dietician/nutritionist.

And of course, as said above, exersize!! If you can't devote an hour each day, even walking a few minutes every hour provides benefits.

And lastly, water. So many people walk around partially dehydrated and don't even realize it. Each day that passes will help restore your energy. But in the mean time, help yourself along with a healthy balanced diet. It's vital to healing!!

You're doing an AWESOME job!

Hi Girl..I think Ricart and I seen the same Addiction guy..Everything he said is true..This is like that Cycle I put in my Journal..It is not just for death but we experience this after we give up our DOC..Like it says if we get stuck in anger and depression this is were we could fall. We must more to the acceptance part. I am proud of you my Girl and I have been since day one..Everything we have talked about has come true for you..Ya..
I like the Protein powder mixed with berrys also the electrolytes give you energy. The Bs Cs and all mentioned above is good. I get all my Amino acids compounded in one..The bottle says Protein on front and it as amino acids A-V in the bottle. I do have some by them self for sleep or more energy I also like to take a good iron, but I get all my vit/min in a liquid from a great natural source so it is plant based..There is called the stuff called "RHODIOLA" at the health store. It is popular among athletes. It provides nutritive support for healthy stamina levels..BUT all of this takes time to kick in. Exercise is the KEY and that is the Truth and nothing but the Truth.. Oh there is so much out there..If we eat Healthy we can get a lot of Vit/Min that way..I wuv U girl and you hang in because you are doing a great Job!!!!

Hi Rosy...I think you are doing AMAZING!!...everything Ricart said I soooooo believe..especially the exercise...like if everyone would do even just a simple 2mile walk everyday, it would benefit them soooooo much!!...my husband & I both got off methadone, he layed round playing Xbox, while I got up, went out for a walk/run EVERYDAY & I got better soooooo much faster...the week I stopped methadone completely, I was running 10miles...can't believe how much the opiates took outta me..its like you think they're giving you all this energy, but once your off, you can see just how much they were actually taking...I really think if you got in a quick walk tho, or some kind of exercise daily, you would have so much energy then there would be no stopping you!!!...LOL...hope you have a great day!!!....Teri. xo. ;)

I am beyond proud of you! Seriously, we have been together through this from day 1 and I've watched you help so many others on here and be so supportive to anyone that is struggling. You are one amazing person and I am so glad that you're finally finding some relief with the cravings.

For energy I take 2 500mg L Tyrosine capsules on an empty stomach (about an hour before breakfast). Then after breakfast I take 2 100mg B6 vitamins (and I'm still taking a Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc vitamin along with those two). Around 2-3pm I drink a Starbucks coffee and eat some dark chocolate:).

Hi Rosy.

You have been such a support to me.

For energy - I take L-Tyrosine - I got it at the health food store. I take 2 with a vit B6 each morning & then again aorund noon. It helps.

I also eat really well (fruits, veggies, oatmal, protein, etc. Oh and water!!

As for next steps - it sounds like you are doing great - going to meetings.

Do you work? I have found work to be such a great distraction for me.

Hey Rosy !  You are doing great !!   As you said cravings are lessening in frequency and intensity. They will continue to lessen even more over the next month or so. Your brain is still readjusting to accommodate the new clean you and also all of those things that you avoided grieving during pill use are now being processed in a normal way. I was told by an addiction MD that as we get clean the feelings crowd up (for lack of a better term) in our conscious mind and then are processed and we move on.Then,as we stay clean some of the older stuff that has worked it's way into our subconcious begins to show up in our conscious thoughts. This is why it seems like the battle is ongoing but actually it is a healing process and these feelings and thoughts that we do not want to be feeling are actually signs of healing and the flagship of a new better us !  BUT...our reaction to these feelings are what gets us into trouble be it using or making a bunch of trouble for ourselves by acting out or engaging in other destructive behavior.  If we just keep going and stay clean though,we will continue to heal and life will be much easier on us. If we relapse because of it we then have to go through the process over again(which ***** !)
The only thing I would say is I have a 30-40 minute cardio exercise session every day . I am not trying to get bulked up or look like Mr universe or anything. This running, cardio etc. that I do is more for my mental state than for any other reason. I can process thoughts while I am running and process them in a more rational way than if I were sitting on my couch .It is like meditation . All the while I am creating endorphin and getting the neurotransmitters flowing and getting healthy . I know that if everyone did this EVERY day that they would reap such great benefits from it that they would find it an invaluable tool in their sobriety toolbox. I started doing it for depression and addiction and I will say it is the single most important tool I have in my "box"     You are doing great Rosy and thank you for all of the help you give to everyone on the forum .   ;))
