Narcotic use while pregnant..Please help!

A friend of mine found out that she is pregnant a few weeks ago, she is 10-11 weeks and is convinced that using percocet does not effect the fetus until her last trimester.  She uses anywhere from 5-10 percocet '10s' daily..sometimes more. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated!

If you have to, go behind her back...call her doc or ob/gyn and let them know what is going on. They will do blood work and tell her that it showed up in there...she doesn't have to be told that you were involved.
The ob/gyn could stick her in hospital to help ease the withdrawals.
That poor girl...that poor baby.
I'm so glad that she has a friend like you.
Have you tried talking to any of her family? Would they be willing to help?

She's in denial. She's an addict. That's a lot of Percocet not to mention Tylenol. She needs to taper off this under a Dr.'s supervision right away.  You can get info from a pharmacist and give it to her. You can also tell her that hospitals routinely test for drugs on every woman who presents in labor.  If she hasn't been honest with her Dr. she's in for a BIG problem.

Good luck~

The problem here is, that if she is taking this much now it is going to be very hard for her to stop in the last trimester, harder than it will be now, and harder on the fetus too. She has a problem that really needs to be brought to her ob/gyn's attention. If she can do that, for her baby and herself, the doctor can guide her in the right direction, and hopefully make her aware that these medications cross the placenta to the fetus at ANY times during pregnancy. There are options available to her to help her stop, but any and all of them are best done under the direction of her physician, especially when a woman is pregnant. Please urge her to notify her doctor right away, and have her read some of the posts on her, there are many regarding pregnancy, she could also come here herself for some support. Good luck and God Bless---Jacky
